There were tons of names talked about before jetBlue was chosen. If I recall correctly, the marketing team asked David Neeleman what his favorite color was. He replied Blue, and so, they suggested jetBlue. And it took off from there.

Where does that come from? Well in Australia, people who have red hair are always nick name "Blue" or "Bluey" Why? How would I know? Why does the US 10 cent coin have the word "dime" on it? Just one of those things, I guess!

It seems you are quite ignorant and have no idea what Pantanal is. Pantanal is a name of a huge swamp region in Brazil, very famous. I think this airline flies mainly to airports in the Pantanal region. The biggest city and airport in the Pantanal is Corumba (Corumba International, CMG) and Cuiaba (CGB). If this name for an airline is stupid all airline names after cities, regions or countries (American, Swiss, British, Austrian etc.) must be stupid too.
If you want to learn about the Pantanal:

Yes, you are right, Pantanal is the name of the region in Western Brazil, also some parts of Bolivia, but something I don´t understand is that they don´t fly in that region. I believe they used to fly there but now mainly from São Paulo CGH to small/medium sized cities in the São Paulo state, Minas Gerais and Bahia. They are a regional airline operating some ATR42. I used to see them in Brasília and also thought they flew in that region, but not...

Sometimes it's funny how these names come around. For instance, Canada 3000 *was* Air 2000 in Canada. Back in the early 90's Air 2000's parent (First Choice of the UK) moved into Canada and brought their airline with them. Idea was to operate the machines here in the Winter rather than parking them when the UK leisure market dies. Turns out that because of foreign ownership rules, they couldn't do that. They needed to be Canadian owned to a given percentage. Oops. What to do? Find a couple of guys to invest, and add "Canada" and another "1,000" to the name. And like a few weeks later - Ta da! A new carrier name is born.

And USA 3000? The former Pres of Canada 3000 (Angus Kinnear) moves to Philly, and history repeats.

Jazz is an even worse one - created by an ad agency in Halifax, Nova Scotia under monster duress over a weekend, as I recall.

Actually, prior to NE merging w/DL back in 1972; NE was originally supposed to merge w/NW but the deal fell through (the CAB wouldn't allow NW to take over NE's MIA-LAX route). Had that merger happened, NW could've been renamed Northeastwest, Northwesteast, Northwesteastern, Northeastwestern, etc.
