I just hope SAS and US will also get the 70th anniversary...

What I would like to see would be Retrojets of BA, KLM, and some of the big US airlines. Unfortunately, Pan Am and TWA are gone, these would be my favourite Retro Jet airlines...

For me it would be CO and it would be the "Proud bird with the golden tail" scheme, and I'd like to see it on the 777.

As a young aviation nut in the early 60's I used to watch a Continental commercial where they showed an artist painting "Continental Airlines" on the side of a 707 model. I remember it to this day.

N679AN got painted the regular colors sometime before Oct 19, 2003. Probably some kind of cost cutting move. It lasted 4.75 years in the special livery. N951AA is about 4.75 years old. Hopefully they don't repaint that one in regular colors (though to be honest I liked the lightning bolt livery over the astrojet)

I want to see UA paint a 757 and an A320 in the orange/red/blue on white. That was a damn good paint scheme.

I also want to see the Buffalo Sabres take up their old blue/yellow uniforms.

I would personally like to see CO do the 1970's and 1980's Golden Tail, Red Cheatline, and meatball scheme again, on anything...that was one classy (and classic!) scheme.

Great thread -

The funny thing is in many cases the retro livery is clearly prettier than the current one. From a marketing point of view it seems it could make some sense for a modern airline to adopt a retro look. Retro seems to be fashionable these days.

Technically it is not a 60's livery. It is a hybrid from liveries used in the 50's and 60's. The colours match the ones used in the 50's better than the 60's (although the bottom half was blank/aluminum in the 50's). The sloping grey in the front is from the late 60's, but then they had a black nose. In the 60's it only said "Scandinavian" on the side, and had a blue frame around the doors. In both the 50's and 60's there was a dark area under the cockpit window. In neither the 50's, nor the 60's the engines were white. And the SAS logo is placed to low on the tail.

Maybe i'm just difficult, it is afterall a classical inspired livery, but i think a retro livery should be one that is at least very close to one that has been in use.

Thanks for the nostalgia trip - I remember that commercial as well and would love to see either CO "golden tail" livery back. Their 747's looked great with the golden tail & globe design. Still have a model of one I built back in the 70's after flying ORD/LAX on a CO 747.
Also would love to see BA do a retro BOAC livery.
