American Airlines Livery

Sat Nov 04, 2006 3:06 am

Will American Airlines every get rid of the old boring polished livery? I want them to change the livery it is getting really old. DL, UA, and US all have new liveries except AA. What do you guys think of this one? By the way, I didn't do it.

Um...er..ah.. is that a mockup of an A340 with American Airlines logo on it? interesting!

Other than that.. the livery isn't bad.. though it does kind of, on the tail, remind me of that revision of Delta livery.

Nice Deltaflot livery. If you ask me, DL, UA, and US have all adopted liveries inferior to their previous one, but, hey, that's just my opinion.

Even though this question is brought up a few times a month, I'll go ahead and chime in with the ol' "AA's livery is timeless, very well designed, good for another 35 years" etc.

So there you go.

AA livery is perfectly okay. Saves a ton of gas cause it makes the planes lighter. Is a classic design, I will feel sad if they ever change. Classic is not bad (At least not always). Though I must say, change of liverys sometimes work from good to better (British Airways) But also the other way around good to terrible (United Airlines)

If it ain't broke don't fix it...Marketing 101.

What exactly will that new livery do for them?...nothing at all. People know the current livery and it works.

American has one of THE best liveries in the sky today.

I think that AA and DL get the most threads about possible new livery on a.net. I wonder why? If adopted by AA what will they call this one? "Amero-Flot?" just like "Delta-Flot?"  duck   eyepopping

EXACTLY! I really like AA's livery. It is my third favorite after other two classics: AM's and AZ's. My fourth is AV's livery.

(Hmm, I just figured out that all my favorite liveries start with the letter A.. believe me, just a coincidence)...

Think of all the sports teams who have never changed their uniforms...the Yankees, the Red Sox, the New York Jets went back to their old "classic" uniform.
AA isn't any different. Their livery has become a classic and one of the most recognizable.
Another airline that is entering that territory is CO. They've had several changes, but their latest has really stuck...going on 15 years now. Which is really saying something these days when compared to UA and DL. AA and CO are two airlines who I hope never change liveries as they are easily the most recognizable US airlines.

I was actually going to bring up this point. If I recall correctly, CO introduced their current look in 1991 or so, as part of one of their restructurings. I could easily see their livery sticking around for a long while -- I think it has a lot of promise and potential as far as classic liveries go. I could very easily see it looking fresh and modern in 20 or 30 years, or beyond (although their logo typeface slightly annoys me.) Anyone else agree?

Hey! I drew that one.  Smile

Most of the ones I've drawn over on MAP are liveries that will never happen, on aircraft types that the airlines will never own.

I think I even did an AA TU-154 somewhere. Mostly just for fun.

I like these two, nice job Concorde... though i'd like the accent stripe color about 1/2 the size and would be curious to see what the top half would be if it remained metal.

Cause unlike DL, UA and US... AA has never had to file for bankruptcy. Only legacy to never do so. Carriers change livery to change face and the idea model of the company after coming out of bankruptcy to re-brand their business and give the customer an idea of a new carrier and a new start.

The current AA livery will stay at AA for years to come and is classic. Painting 600+ a/c is not AA's priority. Getting new a/c and profitable routes is.

When I was at the McComb's School of Business, Gerard J. Arpey was a guest speaker. When asked by a student who's minor was advertising "will AA ever change their logo?" His reply was... "Simple no, we have better ways to spend money than on paint."

So again...  no

It's a hard thing to create a livery that everyone likes. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions? If so, I'll give it another try.

Yeah,if you make the stripes go around the whole nose of the aircraft, or if just make the top of the aircraft red, white, and blue instead of the stripes in the front.

For your other two aircrafts that you metioned...try making the white parts a silver color like Virgins.

Please do not take it in a negative light .You pictures are very good.I think it is hard to imagine an American aircraft with that much color on it.That's my opinion.

AA livery is iconic, how could it be updated or modernized and acknowledge tradition and still be instantly reconized as AA? Good question, but a 787 order may force AA into a change.

How about a design based on Boeing's 787 stock picture livery? I think the "wave" design looks really cool. The question is the top of the aircraft, color? Metallic paint?

Anyway, there is nothing classier then polished aluminum (as long as it's maintained).

I'm sorry but I will not be joining the "AA livery is timeless/classic/iconic" bandwagon. AA's livery has always been an extremely hideous and ugly, boring, unimaginative, cheesy livery IMO. AeroMexico needs to send some people over to AA and tell how a polished aircraft should REALLY look. Even Eastern's bare metal scheme looked a lot better than AA. AA's bare metal does not look polished. It looks dull and faded. Just very ugly. It needs to be changed. But again, that's MY opinion.
