I will be taking a one-way trip between Orlando (MCO) and New York (NYC) in September of this year and have a choice between the following:
JFK: American Airlines (MD88, B757) JetBlue (A320?), Delta Airlines (MD88, B757)
EWR: Continental Airlines (B738, B752), JetBlue (A320?)
LGA: JetBlue (A320?), Delta Airlines (MD88)
So my choice of airlines are American, JetBlue, Continental and Delta.
Ive been on an A320 and B738 before, so it would be nice to try and MD88 and B757.
I understand as a 'low-cost' airline, JetBlue is very good. Is it worth spending extra money and going with the other airlines?
Any comments appreciated.

Do you have a FF loyalty? Are you going for price? Airport? Aircraft? Service? Lots of variables here to choose from.

No, I don't have a FF loyalty. Im an english student, so price will be a big factor.
Service is always nice, but for a 2.5 hour journey its not not compulsory.
As I said above, Ive been on an A320 and B738 before, so trying something different such as an MD88 or B757 will be nice experience.
Ive used JFK before and will be using EWR to fly into and out of from London, so perhaps I could use LGA this time?

Where in the city are you getting to? Would LGA be closer or EWR? You getting picked up? Still lots to consider.
If it is a matter if seeing all the airports, then LGA is your choice.

A320 and B738 is the common bird for routes like that these days, but yeah, AA has a bunch of Super 80s (just don't get seated too far back, those planes are incredibly silent upfront and EXTREMELY loud in the back, in fact the last two rows are ON the engines). JetBlue is a great airline to fly, but yes, it will be an A320. 757 is a lot like the flying experience on an A320, if a bit larger. Ultimately, that's a fairly short route, I personally hate flying into EWR when I visit New York City, LGA/JFK is a far better option

Haven't flown an MD-88? Well, you're not missing much. Seriously. And I felt more cramped on a DL 757 then on a US 734, so I don't know. Personally, I'd definitely go with B6. From what I hear, their IFE is great and overall service is wonderful. Also, fly into LGA. Despite the fairly dirty feeling facility, it gets you really close to the city.

As a New Yorker who travels often I would say if you can fly into LGA. IMHO despite the poor airport...it puts you right into the city and imo has some great views coming into the airport..I mean you can see it all. (never flown into JFK but im sure the views are great as well) Your truly not missing much on a MD-88

Well I am going to differ from the rest of the crowd and say go with DL MD-88 through LGA, price permitting. Second choice would be through JFK, again with DL. I think if you've never been on one you should experience it before all the classic Douglas airliners are gone.
If you sit in the front on the two seat side you will enjoy it more than the usual A320/737, which you will have many more years to fly on. The DL Mad Dogs are on average a little younger than AA's, which would be an MD-82 on this route by the way. Whatever you do, avoid AA's 757's at all costs as the seats are very uncomfortable.
There's nothing quite like a trijet.

AA no longer flies JFK-MCO. They do, however, do LGA-MCO on the MD82/3 or the B757.

Our EWR and LGA operations only have A320 service...I don't think that will change by Sept. Our JFK - MCO flights are also A320 only right now and I don't think that is going to change either.
The choices are based on:
> What airport are you comfortable flying into
> What airline has a flight at a reasonable price that is within a time frame that you prefer
> Any frequent flyer programs you belong to or any other previous loyalty you may have for a particular item
> What comfort levels you want (seat pitch and width which you can look up on airline websites)

I'd take Delta,,my favorite airline. But my kids love JetBlue...more room, good IFE,,good crews. If you time your MCO visit right, and there's a hurricane moving up the east coast..just put your back to the wind...hold out both arms..take a deep breath...and head north..

Also keep in mind transportation from the airport to wherever you're going...if you're going into Manhattan, LGA's closeness is partially offset by it having the weakest public transportation links. On the other hand, LGA does usually have the best approach views.
Despite being a LCC, JetBlue may not be your lowest-cost choice - NYC to Florida is super-competitive. JetBlue does have better seat pitch and IFE, though, if that matters to you.
Also, if you're not in a rush and don't mind a connection, you could also take AirTran, which could mean a 717 or a 737, or possibly both. AirTran flies into both LGA and EWR.

If it was me I'd go CO or B6. I hate 757s and have flown AA 757s a number of times, they are uncomfortable and tatty. If you do decide to go AA (and I think they are a fine airline) make sure you get a MD 88 for the experience if nothing else. I like JFK as an airport over and above EWR, never flown into LGA

As others have said, the MD-80 is nothing special.
I'd go with B6

I have to take TrijetsRMissed's side. If there's one thing I like, it's variety. It's always nice when I get the chance to fly on an MD-80 instead of the same old 737s and A320s.

It seems like airport choice does not matter to you, neither a redundant A320 or B738. If you have never flown B6 and are more interested in service, then take B6. If you would like new aircraft variety, then take DL's M88's over AA's S80's (also better service on DL). If you are looking for a complementary in-flight sandwich (or muffin if on the morning flights) and a decent seat product in coach, then fly CO (but during snacks at mealtimes of course).
