AA Vs UA

Recently I have noticed alot of possible merge discussions but i miss the old airline vs airline threads. So now that US airlines are starting to make more changes (and money) i wanted to bring the U.S heavyweights head to head one more time. AA vs UA, who and why??

AA 772's are a few hundred pounds lighter than UA 772's(less paint)

I'm pretty sure this should be in the Polls and Preferences forum.

To answer though...UA. Mainly because I hate AAs backbone aircraft the MD-80 or the Super 80...frankly there is nothing super about it. I guess they mean Super old, run down, and uncomfortable.

AA says they will keep the A300s as long as they can...you can expect to see AA AB6's for at least another 5 years.

They can discuss and plan and the respective boards can meet all they want, the DOT will never allow a merger this large to go through.

United prefers PW motors on most of their fleet, while American has a mix of GEs & RRs on their fleet.
I rather see UA with NW, and AA with DL, if the industry were to undergo a major consolidation mania.

The number of business travellers that have gaffed off UA for AA, CO, or DL in the last 5 years is astounding. Been on a UA long haul flight lately? Guess not. I have. They are worse than NW.

Look at the endless consumer reports. AA gets rated higher than UA everytime. AA isn't as high as a CO, but they kill UA.

Some of you should look at the facts before posting the above rubbish.  no

Let us not let "the tail wag the dog;" the facts will say what they may, but will not have a bearing on an individuals experience on an airline.

Dude, its an OPINION poll. This isnt supposed to be based on facts, but on preference.

That being said, I fly UA more than AA for the following reasons:

1) I travel to Asia alot and UA offers more choices.
2) I grew up and have been living in LA and UA offers more choices here
3) Im moving to Chicago and UA offers more choices there
4) I like Econ. Plus. Its nice to have the extra leg room.
5) I get upgraded more with UA than I did with AA (Premier Exec. vs. AAdvantage Platinum).

To be honest, as far as service is concerned, there is no difference between the two that I can find. Please tell me how AA is better than UA longhaul. Having been on multiple Long haul flights on both carriers, I certainly cant find any difference. I know UA doesnt have PTV's on its 747's but AA doesnt on its 767's while UA does.

In My Opinon United is a much better choice!

Also, thanks for the correcting the previous posters comments about fleet changes at AA. I am glad to hear that American will keep the A300s and MD-80s.

Some of these users think that just because Boeing unveiled it's 787, automatically everything flying now is old, outdated and must be replaced.  Yeah sure
I am in no rush to see the MD-80s replaced as they are great aircraft and has served American Airlines very well.


United Airlines and American Airlines are both good carriers but I am partial to United because I like there service just a little bit more than Americans. I grew up in Chicago, lived in Los Angeles, currently live in San Francisco, have friends in Denver and used to travel to D.C. for business and I enjoy visiting Asia. So I am going to get a lot of experience on United.
One think I like better about American Airlines is their livery. I hope AA never changes their livery. I love the polished aluminum with red, white & blue cheatlines.
United Airlines has the 747 which I love to fly on.
Bring back the Concorde

I am surprised no one has mentioned Channel 9 with UA. I fly UA most of the time because of Channel 9 and Economy Plus.

Excellent point; why has no other airline enabled such a feature? Now if only UA could add the nose camera...

I love Channel 9. Im quite surprised no other airline has done something comperable. But I guess only aviation nerds like us would care that much.

The service on the Intra-Asia flights for UA is very good! Recently Ive done SIN-HKG, NRT-SIN, and HKG-NRT. Service is better than on the overseas flights for UA, but services isnt bad or anything on UA's transpac flights, just nothing to write home about. The same can be said for AA.
