How Good Virgin Atlantic Premiumm Economy

Tue Sep 25, 2007 6:35 pm

How good is British Airways World Traveller Plus, and how does it compare with Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy ?

I am planning to flight with Premium Economy to Hong Kong, but i m not sure which one is the best?
Since i am paying a double of economy ticket so i would like to compare which one is the best for my trip, and i've been flown with Virgin many times before but i never remember what their Premium Economy looks like.

I would like to know anyone flew with Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy to Hong Kong recently?
Are they replaced latest leather seats in premium economy on Airbus A340-600?

RE: How Good Bewteen BA Virgin Atlantic PremiumEco

I've never been with Virgin, but I have flown BA's premium economy to Hong Kong several times in the past.

The Seat:

The seat is wide enough and has enough leg-room (38") to be able to stretch out a little and get some sleep. On the old low-J aircraft there are single economy plus seats, that is obviously good if travelling alone, however I think HK is now all Hi-J or Mid-J configs.

Entertainment:

I think it is all AVOD to HK now. In premium economy there is also a choice of games. If I'm wrong you'll get the old 18 channel system plus games.

Service:

Excellent BA service
Comp newspaper
Economy Class meals, but drinks served in proper glasses
Get served before the rest of economy

I have just flown VS200 in PE on Wednesday night.

The new PE seat is the most comfy airline seat I have ever sat in, and I'm an ex BA employee.

There is a dedicated PE site: http://alotmorespace.com

I would suggest having a look there. Let me know if you have any Q's.

Yes, the 346 is always used LHR-HKG-SYD.

I paid £426 return in Economy and was upgraded to PE @ gate.

To PVG 6 weeks ago I paid £776 for PE one way, Economy the other, and again was upgraded to PE for the other leg.

You will love it here.

Absoultely. The second photo here shows the whole PE cabin, it's very small and personal.

I hear that VS has constantly been praised by the industry as well as passengers for their Premium Economy class. I have never personally flown BA's World Traveller Plus, but I can tell you that VS's Premium Economy is pretty nice. Great comfort, in-flight entertainment, food, service, would fly it again, again, and again, and then again.

Suggest you also consider Air New Zealand who operate LHR-HKG nonstop daily on 747-400 en route to AKL. I have seen quite a few positive reports on their premium economy product. NZ inflight service (meals etc.) sounds closer to a business class product than BA's which is the standard Y class meal except you are served first. Most NZ premium economy seats on the 747-400 are on the upper deck in a 3-2 layout. NZ website indicates 38-40 inch pitch..

Photo below of NZ 744 upper deck premium Y cabin with 23 seats (the front of the upper deck has 10 of the 46 flat-bed business class seats). I would thus expect the upper deck premium Y passengers are served by the same cabin crew who handle the 10 J seats so service may be a little more personal compared bo BA where the Y class cabin crew also handles premium Y.
