New Airlines?

Mon Nov 05, 2007 10:45 pm

I thought about all of the new airlines that have come up in the past couple years and thought it would be cool to start a thread about all new airlines. You can post links and so forth or tell about new airlines in development.

I'll go first:

www.airgumbo.com

Chances of that flight taking off: little to none and little just checked out.

What was that one planning service from FL with all business 757s. Also how is Pan Am Clipper Connection (Boston-Maine Airways) doing. I LUV their 727.

Seems like a cool airline but I don't like the words fly and fire in the same sentence.

What we need is an airline that'll fly DC-8's, 707's, and BAC-111's in scheduled pax service!!

(I missed ever taking those, see.)

Well, apparently they(Pan Am) have dropped BED-ELM, TTN-ELM, BED-HVN, TTN-BWI and are left with weekday PSM-BED-TTN service. No 727 routes since ELM-SFD was dropped. I really wish US Airways would return to BED and offer some decent service out of here.

Well, we do have Thai Asia w/ L1011s. Oh, and NWA with DC-9s.  Wink

Crystal Airways

I like how they tout the CRJ-200 as "efficient." Those fares are like ValuJet fares back in the 90s when oil was 1/3 of its present price. This would be a cool airline to see flying, but I'm pretty sure YX has shown that all J seating and perks can't be had at LFC prices.

That's a pretty cool concept if nothing else. I suppose the idea is to be to MSY what YX is to MKE. The biggest flaw I noticed was their intention to be a low-fare carrier using CRJs. That doesn't tend to work real well. Also...a name change. I'm guessing any variations on "Jazz" would get a lawsuit from AC, but I really don't like calling an airline Air Gumbo. It just sounds laughable. NOLAir? I dunno. Something other than Air Gumbo though.

Ah, but I been on those. (Well, the 1011's were EA and TW, but still. An L1011 is an L1011 is an L1011.)

I read that some French airline somewhere (uh, France probably) is still using DC-8's; but if that's true I don't know if it's pax, or scheduled or charter.

Considering they've been a paper airline for pretty much the entire decade, slim to none is definitely the call.

It looks like Blackstar Airlines, a startup out of LAS, looks to be dead as well, as their website address redirects to some guy's photo site.. They were proposing flights from LAS to Europe using 744s.

Anything lately on DirectAir, who was planning to hub @ MSY using 737s?

There was Family Airlines

www.familyairlines.com/

Their (former maybe) CEO is a convicted felon that ran for Congress in 06:

http://www.michaelsforcongress.com/barry_michaels_For_Congress.htm

Wouldnt be the first airline CEO to hold such a distinction.

There was also some start up that became a virtual airline/Islamic extremist site. Can't remember the name.

What are the economics on flying a 744 domestically? Are those pics real or photo shopped?

The pics are real; in fact, there are photos in the database of the original Family Airlines 747-100 (Family Airlines has been an on and off startup since the early 1990s):

Looking at the website for the latest attempt of Family Airlines, they look to be trying to stuff as many folks as the can in it. 482 economy seats on the main cabin and 42 first class seats on the upper deck for a capacity of 524 seats. Think something along the lines of the 747s JAL uses for domestic service. Plus like some of the ULCCs, they'll charge for meals, drinks, IFE, etc.
