Farthest Distance Between 2 Airports U Have Been 2

Sun Jan 13, 2008 7:51 am

To get an idea of how far apart the 2 most distant points on earth you've visited, tell us the two airports that you've been to that are the farthest apart.

For me it's OGG and AMS. 7265 NM according to the GCM.

This is an interesting math problem. If we limit to N airports, there are N chose 2 combinations. So for 100 airports there are 4950 pairs. I'm too lazy to check for my own travels.

If non-stop then it is JFK-JNB which is 7,969 miles.
If from start to finish of a trip then JNB-LHR-LAX which is 11,076 miles
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

In memory e.g. Past 7 years would be SIN - LHR however in whole life it would have to be I think SIN - JFK or whatever the airport was in New York in around 1996-1999

Among my visited airports I've found EZE-ICN at 19,483km (12,106mi, 10520nm). That's probably pretty close to the maximum distance between two points on Earth (about 20 megameters).

Quoting Andz (Reply 3):

If I interpret the original question correctly, your answer is LAX-JNB at 10,385mi (9024nm).

My query was meant to address the two most distant airports that you have EVER visited. For example, the two airports I listed in my thread starter, I visited almost 20 years apart. Non-stop and same trip pairs are also welcome, of course.

Marathon, FL MTH. and Anchorage, AK ANC. 3511NM is my farthest.

MTH-ANC 11NM farther than my other EYW-ANC.

That would be a neat trick, seeing that 11,550nm is a bit more than half the Earth's circumference.

You meant 11,550mi = 10,037nm = 18588km

Somebody who's been to NZ and Spain or Morocco will probably win. AKL-XRY is 19940km.

Are there any two airports with regular commercial service that are at least 20,000km apart? TNG-WRE is 19,998km apart and can be done with three stops (four flights) in about 35 hours.

Quoting Analog (Reply 5):
EZE-ICN at 19,483km (12,106mi, 10520nm).

Wheee. I'm still winning. even though it's not relevant for this "contest", I actually went from ICN to EZE within a week. ICN-LAX-IAH on a Friday, IAH-EZE on the next Friday.

With apologies to Dl757md for taking over, so far we have (I added the number of stops needed if one were to actually try to get from one to the other):

19,998km: ???: TNG-WRE (three stops needed)
19,483km: Analog (yay!): EZE-ICN (one stop needed)
19,290km: Kiwiandrew: ZQN-LIS (three stops flights needed)
18,588km: LHRjc: EDI-CHC (two stops needed)
18,354km : 9VSWA: AKL-LHR (direct one-stop, single aircraft service!)

I would have to go back and look to make sure (which I am far too lazy to do), but I am guessing HNL to FCO at 8042 NM.

HNL (21°19'07"N 157°55'21"W) FCO (41°48'16"N 12°15'03"E) 8° (N) 8042 mi

HNL-TLV at 7531 NM.

The message you were about to post is too short and probably not of any higher value to the topic at hand. You should think long and hard before posting a message in this forum and make it detailed and a valuable addition to the topic discussed.

Avoid posting "Me Too" messages. These are messages that are posted by people who agree to a point being discussed and post a one liner, "me too!", "Good post Jim!", "I disagree" or similar message. This takes up time as readers must sort through these messages which have no real value to the group at large. Any message containing nothing more than a line or two of text is probably not worth posting.

If you have an opinion on a topic, you should in detail express why you have the opinion and what made you come to that conclusion.

Your post should be relevant to the topic discussed.

My farthest points travelled:

North: Lake Itasca, Minnesota, 47.22 degrees North Latitude

South: Ka Lae, South Point, Big Island of Hawai'i, 18.9 degrees North Latitude

West: Jermaine's Luau on O'ahu, 158.105 degrees West Longitude

East: Dartmouth, Massachusetts, 70.97 degrees West Longitude

The distance between the farthest airports I have travelled to would be HNL and PVD, 4419 nm.

Going north-south, Bemidji (the closest airport to Lake Itasca, MN), BJI, to Morelia, Mexico, MLM, is 1683 nm.

DOH! it never even occurred to me to check between my home town of AKL and LIS or SVQ , I guess it seemed counterintuitive since DUD and ZQN are further south forgetting of course that the planet is (nearly ) a sphere . AKL and SVQ at 19939 km ( 12389 miles for all those  old  people out there ) seem to be my new 'furthest pair'
