The A.Net Jet - What Shall We Buy?!

Thu Feb 07, 2008 9:55 pm

This has been posted before, but not seen it for a while and always made me laugh.

If we all chip in I'm sure we can afford a half sensible airliner for us all to own and it can travel the globe to A.Net members all over the world to fly on.

Therefore, what's it to be?

Found a 747 here, only US$65,000,000!!

The Gilmi Glider. A 767-233, which is also the smallest wide-body available. And probably affordable too.
Regards.

Just to piss off the NIMBYs, let's buy a 707, the loudest airplane out there and we'll do low passes over their houses towing a sign that says "You don't like the noise? MOVE!"

Buying it's the easy bit. If we really were commited we could probably get people to chip together and buy a worn out prop or maybe even a 727.

It's the cost of everything else associated with an aircraft that we can't do. Moving it out of the hanger would cost a small fortune, for example. Storing it for a year, would also cost a small fortune. Maintaining it, another small fortune. We haven't even got onto flying it yet....

Oooh, an even better plan - let's dress it up like a military plane and fly VERY low over La Jolla and Tierrasanta!! That way, when the NIMBY's complain, we'll just point that "that's the sound of FREEDOM!!! And how unpatriotic of you to protest!!"  rotfl

Well,if we all would get a first class membership, then A-net could sponsor us with the maintenance for example and we could also have its logo paint on the plane  Smile . I heard that SAS has a couple of Q400 real cheap. common boys and girls, there are probably a couple of pilots in here who Can take the rudder Big grin.

Can you imagine the A vs B discussion we would have? We would have to invest in a 777 or something as well, so that we can see, my plane is bigger/better/etc.  Silly

If I win the mega-millions jackpot on Tuesday, I'd buy an older 737, just so I could slap a Airliners.net logo on it and fly around picking up members.

Would the mods be serving us drinks and snacks on board?  rotfl

I say we all give $20, since there is 73455 members, that is $1,469,100! we are about 1/35 of the way to a 737!  hyper  Maybe we should design a plane that can hold 200+ and has a special theme to it.

I vote we get an A380 'The Flying Enthusiast'. With 1000 seats we can do weekly OOL (of course thats my home airport)-SYD-LAX-YVR-YYZ-DFW-JFK-LHR-FRA-CDG-FCO-BOM-JNB-SIN-NRT-HKG-PER-OOL (What do you think?)

I say we let the ""EXPERTS"" (Use that lightly!)  Wink of the Tech/Ops forum design the plane. Cheaper (maybe  Wink ) and we could taylor it to our needs.

Now NAMING it...

"The A.net Jet"
"The Insane Plane"
"The Nerd Bird"
"The Crash Bash"
I could go on... Wink

I don't like that rule, mainly because I do not gamble, so instead how about SXM.  Silly

Also, Tech/ops forum will need to design a cabin comparable if not exactly like the following :

How's about getting Richard Branson or Lufthansa to paint one of their 346's in those colors? That's a logojet that would get a heck of a lot of photographic coverage!

A while back I jokingly suggested that we pool our money and charter one of ATA's L-1011s so I could have the experience of flying on one. So now I say we pick up one of ATA's L-1011 when they retire them, so I can have the experience of flying on one.  Smile Hey, in the not too distant future we could be the owners of the last L-1011 flying!

I was about to say that but you beat me to it!  bigthumbsup  Hell, if I was Mark Cuban I'd make it the sweetest team charter aircraft ever invented. He could do so much better than the A319 the Mavs are using.
