Favourite Airport Hotels?

Sun Apr 06, 2008 7:07 am

Hi,

Just wondering (having read the airport thread here) what airport hotels people have stayed in and liked (or even disliked)? My favorite has to be the Marriott TPA. It is inside the terminal (which is also nice) but a separate building. Remember after a 9 hour flight from Europe an evening gym/swim in the warm tropical weather was awesome (naturally they have a jacuzzi too). Plus you could see part of the airport from the windows. Excellent breakfast too.

Another one I like is the Novotel/Etap Hotel opposite Nice airport. Also nice location, and there's a nice jogging track alongside the business jets there!

Any views/experiences etc. welcome,

Many thanks,

Pierre.

Nicest hotel is the one in Kuala Lumpur just outside of the Airport. Stayed there inbetween flights coming back to the UK.
Got a lovely breakfast too before getting on the flight back to LHR

Grand Hyatt at DFW. Located in Terminal D. Convenience, of course because you can be from your room to gate in minutes. And for enthusiasts, fun to be so close for watching.

What about the Jurys Inn in LHR? You can see the runway and the apron from there Big grin

Renaissance LHR and Marriott LHR. I used to like the Hilton at T4 but its gone way down hill in recent years. Marriott Manchester airport is also a winner.

Oh I just remember another one I really liked! The Kempinski Airport Hotel in München (Munich)! Very nice, clean hotel between T1 and T2!

The Renaissance at ATL is nice and its fantastic for spotters given that its located right along 8L/26R. Great view of landing aircraft on 8L/26R, departing aircraft on 8R/26L, and a great view of the midfield terminal complex/ramp action.

TEB-Hilton-You can watch bizjets do the circle to 19 all day to the point it gets very boring along with EWR traffic coming in over head with downtown Manhattan as a background to it all.

PDX-Sheraton-Super nice beds and you can walk to the terminal to catch the train downtown.

PAE-Can't remember the name of it, it's brand new and I stayed there last week. It's across the runway from the Boeing buildings right next to the end of 16R, watching brand spanking new Boeing widebodies take off from your room, need I say more?

LAS-MGM Grand- Skyloft room(penthouse) top floor facing the airport, I was in heaven.

ANC-Millennium Hotel, I look out my window and see the tail of a float plane on Lake Hood, that's cool and the restaurant there has a good view of the field too.

BUR-Marriott, great views of the airport.

Absolute worst....MEM Holiday Inn Select-The airport is right at the end of Runway 27. Horrible service first off, then to top it off, after flying all day and finally crawling into bed sometime after midnight, 727 after 727 after 727 after DC-10 after DC-10 after 727 repeated every 60 seconds for over an hour a couple times a night for FedEx's departure banks. Wow, I love airplanes but not that much. That was pure hell.

Also Crowne Plaza is coming soon in early 2008, now will they have airport facing rooms? If they do I will probably be the first to stay there

Hotel Nikko KIX. Great views of the airport and located on the airport island. You can walk out of the lobby and into the terminal. The hotel service was also second to none.

checkmark   checkmark  Stayed there a few times and really liked it....and by the way, great day rates if you have a long connection.

I also liked the Hilton at BOS, although it's only really convenient (walking-wise) if you're taking DL.

Not good:

1. Renaissance LHR - I understand what everyone's posted, but that's only good if you get a room facing the runway. We didn't (despite requests) and found the service to be pretty shoddy and the parking a rip off.

2. Hilton MEX - Convenient because it's inside the airport, but I found it really musty, no airport views and a little claustrophobic.

Worst.......

Sorry to say because it's my hometown airport, but the MIA Hotel is a flea pit. It has so much potential given it's location; they should just let a chain remodel, refurbish and manage it.

Have to agree - and don't forget the revolving restaurant on the top, great views.

Worst ever - the Ramada at JFK. Horrible service, dirty bathroom, rooms very run down - the window frames were rusty on the inside!

I've never stayed in an airport hotel. I'd like to some time (perhaps DFW) but, if I'm paying, I'm too cheap. I've had the airlines put me up a couple of times. Rome and Athens comes to mind, once in Tehran, too. But they put me in hotels in town or some distance from the airport.

I stayed at the Centrair Hotel at NGO. Unfortunately not much of a view, but the lobby leads straight into the airport concourse. From there, it is not far to get to the viewing platform.

I stayed at the Novotel Citygate near HKG (the Regal is simply too dear) a couple of times. Great hotel, very quiet, but no view of the airport.

Have to agree the Pan Pacific in KUL is excellent. Also a great place to stay overnight is the Hyatt Regency in ICN.
