Reconfirmation?

Fri May 09, 2008 5:46 am

Hi Folks:

I need your collective brains to help me on this one because nobody here seems to be able to give me an answer! I am in China, and purchased a domestic Air China ticket on Expedia for an XMN-PEK flight. Does this need to be reconfirmed? If it makes a difference, it was purchased online in the USA.

Thanks a bunch in advance!!

What is on the itinerary? Anything? If only because of the carrier, I'd re-confirm just in case.

Can I have a mojito on this flight?

No, it does not have to be reconfirmed. Just check in.

No reconfirmations at all needed on Chinese carriers.

With anything booked over the web (especially a non-airline website) it's always best to phone the airline direct and check that they got the booking and (very important) the ticketing information - if they don't get the ticketing information they will cancel the booking for sure. Also it helps to get the airline record locator which Expedia may not provide.

Absolutely - Chinese carriers are all on the same system and it doesn't necessarily "play well with others" i.e. connect well with GDS's like Sabre where Expedia does your booking and ticketing. Best to be sure, call Air China and check they got the booking.

No. Wrong. Really no need to reconfirm in China.

Most Chinese carriers are Amadeus. They are not all on the same international system yet.

Let me add:

Should you try to reconfirm in China, you might have a problem: The call center agent or whoever you are addressing will have no idea what you are talking about.

Incorrect. No Chinese carrier is hosted in Amadeus. There is only one GDS and one airline Res system in China, it is called Travelsky - nothing to do with Amadeus.

I will not argue any further since this matter is not the topic. Try e.g. booking CZ (int'l site) and click on info (?). Or head, as I often do, to your travel agent and ask.

Domestic flight booking is a different system.

My Chinese domestic flight statistic currently says "287 flights".

That is provided by Amadeus, yes and may book through Amadeus, but CZ's own res and inventory is hosted in Travelsky.

It is entirely the topic. The need to reconfirm in general stems from communications problems that used to exist between Travel Agencies and airline systems. In most cases these problems no longer exist, but with some systems they still do.

Good for you. I work for Amadeus in airline IT and I knew exactly how many Chinese carriers are hosted in Amadeus. None. Not one. We're looking to change that but right now the total is zero. Trust me on this. All of the Chinese carriers participate in the Amadeus GDS though and one or two are using our internet booking engine. But what matters in ensuring that your booking is honoured at the airport is the communication of the booking the airline's own inventory and DCS systems. When you reconfirm with the airline, they are checking in their own system that they have received your booking and that the details are correct.

Thanks to you all. I decided to go ahead and call Air China, and they confirmed that everything is set, and the flight will depart at 8:45am next Saturday.  Smile
