Routes You Miss

Wed May 28, 2008 3:27 pm

Got this idea from this thread; https://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo...s/aviation_polls/read.main/155916/

So what routes do you miss on any airline that was operated in the past??

I really miss the time when SAS served the American west coast.

They still do: CPH-SEA? Just saw their 343 in SEA last week...

The one I miss the most is the former MAH-LGW-MAH service by Air Nostrum. The loads were appalling, myself or family flew it many many times and it only ever had half a dozen to a dozen people on it, and was operated by either the CRJ100/200 or 900. The pricing was incredibly erratic too; go to Iberia's site and they wanted to charge you €700rtn, go to BA's site and you could pick it up for £35 each way occasionally, yet on others it would be £260rtn from the outset - the loadings and the length of time in advance which you were booking seemed to have no affect on anything price wise.

Best thing was that it operated as an all C cabin - no matter how much you had paid for the ticket! The entire flight was taken up by one long meal service; drinks before and after takeoff, selection of starters brought around the cabin, then followed by a choice of main courses, bread and hams then offered, then a choice of deserts and finally a further cheese service - all served using real chinaware and metal cutlery. Very impressive for a flight which never took more than two hours from take off to touchdown, and certainly the best flights I have ever taken within Europe!

I'd have to say SNN-LHR. It was cut by EI back in January after almost 50 years and the LHR slots were then used to start BFS-LHR. It was 4 x Daily during the summer and 3 x Daily during the winter. The route had always been profitable but "not profitable enough".

There's a lot of optimism around at the moment that it could return in '09 so..  crossfingers

Two former routes from HAJ:
BSL (growing company presence there by my employer; formerly served by the old LX for SR) and BCN (formerly served by Air Nostrum CRJ200).

TG AMS - BKK
This was always a nice route to fly with Thai even when you had to make a stop in Zurich.
Hopefully we start again to fly to AMS in the future.

I miss SU's SNN-HAV and SNN-MIA routes. They had some great J class fares on that route. I also miss LOT DUB-WAW . Such a shame that route went.

TG BKK / BNE direct. Currently via Sydney and a 12 hour+ route with arrival in BNE around 11 pm. Too late for public transport to the city.

I wonder when TG will resume direct BNE flights in both directions?

I miss the Reeve Aleutian DC-6B then L188 that flew Seattle to Cold Bay, Alaska. For a while it was the only way to fly "overseas" in a large propliner.

I miss NW's DTW-HNL. It was only seasonal, but I don't see it coming back anytime soon. DTW-FCO as well, too bad the 75A dosen't have the legs.

Speaking for myself and the entire Kern Country region, BFL-DFW and BFL-IAH.

Considering that both cities are in the top 5 O&D location for BFL airport, it astounds me that both airlines turn their back on premium oil traffic. Heck, if UA can actually INCREASE service to BFL (second daily BFL-DEN flight and the return of a third daily LAX EM2), then AA and CO are just not paying attention.

On a purely selfish level, I wish SAN-BFL would stay. It might have been salvageable with oil at $70 a barrel, but not at current levels. Now it's back to driving through L.A.

From SAN, I used to wish for the return of the BA 777, but I'd just as soon have a NH 787 and LH bird (of any type!) floating in over Balboa Park.

While we're at it, better connections to Canada would be nice - two A319's to YYZ (one morning departure, one red-eye), and mainline to YVR.

Also, SAN-MEX would also be great.

I did Air Nostrum twice MAD BOD and I thought they were great - so refreshing to have full service on such a shirt flight. Of course what I paid for the tkt was another matter!

They used to operate FAO MAD in the summer, (min fare €328 + tax) but didn't bother when FR picked up the route. Of course FR have now dumped both FAO MAD and FAO GRO, so once again, MAD is just that little bit harder to get to.

Same here but it was even better when it was a NW DC-10.
The routes I miss the most are all the Iberia routes from MIA to Central America. It was amazing landing and seeing 5 Ibera A319 tails and a IB 743 at the gates.
Also the MIA-Instanbul serivce from Turkish with their A340.
Also I miss the UA mini hub in MIA. It was nice having two US airlines flying to Latin America and having another airline to chose from domestically too. UA 777s were great.

From Barcelona Airport, I miss many routes operated until last year by Iberia, like domestic flights to SVQ, BIO, SCQ, PMI, TFN, LPA,...

I miss too, the flights to PVG once operated by the sole Airbus A340-200 opf Air Europa and the Boeing 747-200 of Air Plus Comet.
