Airfares For DEC

Fri Jun 06, 2008 11:50 pm

Hi,
I am QUITE aware of the situation airlines are facing with the current fuel cost. I am wanting to book a flight from BTR-SLC but the price is over 1,000 a person for December. Is there generally a time around August or September when prices will drop for this type of date/ city pair.

With capacity cuts coming in September and October, don't look for too many deals this far out.

I heard at work last week, from someone who is NOT really "in the know", but i respect his experience in the field said that come January, with these capacity cuts in place, airfares will quadruple.

It will be interesting to see how many of us have jobs come January.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

I priced out on AA from Miami -RIO (GIG) and it was $3,400 roundtrip on the 28th of dec coming back on January 5... Last year i paid at this same time $900.00
The airlines are already getting top dollar for nonstop flights.

If that is the case places like Las Vegas, Florida, Cruise Ships, Mexico, and others are not going to be in a good position. I for one think that Las Vegas and others have "unscaled" itself to much the past few years (to many high end rooms, entertainment, and dining options). It can be a good thing when money is easy to come by (ex healthy economy) but can be hard to stay viable in a sluggish economy.

Yeah, I'm thinking of going to DUB in August, 2009, and tickets for August, 2008 are already about $1200. I've been debating whether I should snatch them up as soon as the 330-day window opens in September, or if I should wait for a deal and risk getting bitten...

Anthing between, say, 10 December and 15 January is high season - I'd simply never never expect fares to come down significantly for anything in that timeframe.

Some airlines go to high season levels on 14/15 December, and the first ones go back to shoulder season on either the 24th (European carriers) or 25th (US carriers)... which doesn't help much, as the flights are usually packed anyhow.

There's only a 330-day window if neither the airline nor the channel (website, travel agent, airline call center, ...) that you're booking through uses Amadeus: in Amadeus, bookings can be made up to 360...  Wink ... this is what I get looking at flights for NYC-DUB next year on 1 June (sorry for the strange look of what I copied in - but I cannot get the whole thing to appear in a fixed-width font right now... used to do that with the "pre"-HTML-coding, but the site doesn't seem to accept that right now... at least not in the preview-screen):

Not all carriers use the 360 days, BA for example seems to load up to 353 days in advance, and I can find EI up to 337 days in advance.

... just meant as a hint...  Smile
Smile - it confuses people!

Fares to Rio in the year end are out of mind!
Wait for the new JJ GIG-MIA flight, to be announced soon. $ 3,400 is MORE than the Bulk fare i use to pay for JFK-GIG (thru São Paulo) round trip on Business !!!!
