If You Owned An Airline-what Would Be In Your Flee

Mon Oct 13, 2008 4:53 pm

If I owned my own airline, I'd have the following fleet for each corresponding seat class and mission profile. I personally don't always buy into the 'commonality is a must to be profitable' philosophy. What would you all have? Again these are personal preferences, therefore no one is categorically 'wrong' in their selection!
1. Dash8s for regional use
2. E-Jets for regional to small mainline use
3. A32X family for domestic mainline use
4. 757s (if a U.S. based airline) for 2500nm+ and TATL use where capacity is warranted
5. A330 family for mid-long range ops
6. 789s for 250+ seat long haul ops
7. 77L/77W for 300+ seat long haul ops.
8. A380 for VLA
We often judge others by their actions, but ourselves by our intentions.

Dash 8 for the STOL stuff with some Saab 340's with the ultra tiny places.
A320 series for my shorthauls. Intra Europe and major domestics. Also a couple of 319s configured Privat Air style.
A combination of A330s and 772's on my medium/long lighter routes and bucket and spade long hauls.
Major long haul routes I'd have to have 744's supplemented with some A380s for the seriously busy routes.

Mid/Trans Haul: 738 (700nm to 2800nm)
Longhaul: 787 (2000 to 8000nm)
Aiming High and going far..

Dash-8-300 For short regional flights and island flights in the Caribbean and Bahamas.
737-800 for short haul-medium haul domestic and international
757-200 for some short haul domestic and cross country flights. Also some International service to South America and Europe.
767-300 for flights to Europe and South America. Some Cross Country domestic like JFK-LAX or MIA-LAX.
777-200 Long Haul to large cities from hubs across the world. Maybe a domestic flight or two. JFK-MIA LAX-JFK.
777-200LR Super Long Haul flights across the world.
747-200 I just love this plane and it would be good for high density flights MCO-LGW.
CRJ-700 Regional flights around the US
747-400 mostly flights from to Asia from the West Coast and even some intra asia flights and Asia-Europe also used to Australia and New Zealand.
737-400: Used along the east coast and Midwest for domestic flights.

If You Owned An Airline-what Would Be In Your Flee

Alright this is for Canada,

Regional
DH1 Small hops to cities that dont require alot of seats, think YCD, YXU etc...
DH3 A little bit bigger cities, think YXC, YKA, YYJ (lots of frequency)
Q400 Use this on the bigger cities that usually see a CRJ100/200 now (YLW,YQR, YXE, YMM)
CRJ 705 (Use this to start routes, it will have a C cabin. It could start things like YVR-DFW,PHX,DEN) as well as routes that comonly see it now on Jazz.

Mainline
E75 Thing routes or for frequency
E90 Same thing with the exception of a few longer routes to make daily from certain cities
319 Long Routes
320 On of the workhorses, going to big cities with frequency
321 Same as above
763ER Will do some domestic flights but mainly the thiner international flights that is to far or to full for a 319
333 Mainly international big routes with frequency
77L Only domestic flights would be on downtime with a/c - send out for ULA (think YYZ-JNB, YVR-SIN, YVR-BKK) or YVR-GRU)
77W Big markets think (YYZ-FRA,GRU,LHR YVR-HKG,NRT,LHR)

Hmmm.... it looks very similar to a fleet I can think of besides one or two changes... anyone guess?
Keep the shinny side up!

But you've got yourself quite a list; including most of my favourite aircraft.

If You Owned An Airline-what Would Be In Your Flee

I know we were supposed to stick to just fleets but I couldn't resist building my airline either.

To remind everyone of my fleet:

LOL, I love doing this. Next time I post, I will probably have a company logo, seat drawings, IFE descriptions, ect.

Your hubs/focus cities are great. They represent pretty much the whole U.S. Your fleet is very simple which is a good thing these days. My fleet is all over the place!

I cant even begin to think what airline mine resembles. Any opinions?

I just choose my favorite aircraft, which happens to make a simple fleet.  Smile

Looks like CO and AA merged with the new DL/NW and got rid of MSP.

Nice. I like several types of A/C. I hate 737's though. As you can see, I use the A-319/320 instead of the 737 variants. I noticed you didn't have any 737's either.

The focus would be to create a Top Tier Airline, with a good Business Class cabin, and clear rules for upgrades on Premium Y tickets. The paradise of a Frequent Flyer which company does not allow to purchase a C seat but allow high Y fares.
New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

I'd own:

Some RJ. Don't care which. They're all the same to me.
73G/GER/9. The G's for the fleet workhorse. The G-ER's for the occasional long and very thin route (SFO/LAX-MAD)
772/L/W (all GE engines for commonality)
788-789 (Not sure if I'd use GEnx or RR for this)
