If You Owned An Airline-what Would Be In Your Flee

Sun Oct 26, 2008 8:55 am

So I was thinking this over and I had a thought.

I was weighing the A320 against the 73G. The 73G has its issues, but appears to be the cheaper plane to operate, according to every source I look at, although the difference is small. But I went with the 737 because of the versatility and frankly, it just outperforms the A320 in terms of range and sheer hauling power. Ultimately the two families are very similar, but there are some things you can do with a 737 that you can't do with an A320 (like fly 5,200 nm) and that's why I chose the 737. I think that having flexibility and performance in your fleet so that you can quickly respond to market demands is important.

Firstly, definately a few A380's for longer range routes.
Also on extra long haul I'll have A345/6's and 744's as well as 2 777-22H LR's.

On shorter routes I would operate A321's, A319's and 757's.
For cargo all I'd use are MD11's. They are the most reliable and besides that,
they just look awesome.

I think I have to change things around given how things have been going lately.

1) 73G/8/9 with -ER variants.
2) A330
And then the toughie would be the A350 vs the 777.

Under no circumstances would I order a 787. I would actually like to receive and fly my planes, thank you.

Ok, I'll bite on one of these.

My fleet would be:

Saab 340
Embraer 145
CRJ 700
CRJ 900
E170
E190
737-700
737-800
737-900
757-200
757-300
767-300
A330-200
A330-300
A340-300
B777-200LR
B777-300ER

Future plans for:
B787-8 (to replace 767-300s)
B787-9 (to replace A340-300s and A330-200s)
A350-9 (to replace A330-300s)

Actually, it depends. I don't think you can fly 5,200nm with a 737-800 unless it's a BBJ base. You can do it with a 737-700ER, though. Likewise, you can't fly 5,200nm with an A320, but you can with an A319ER (AF uses them for long-haul thin routes).
