Airports With Widebodies From Only One Airline

Sat Dec 06, 2008 6:21 pm

I was wondering, can anyone think up of airports that get widebody aircraft from only one airline (besides any cargo carriers)?

For me, the first one to come up to my mind is JAX. The only widebodies JAX gets are DL's domestic 763s, although occasionally DL may rotate a 764ER on the ATL-JAX route.

For a while, DL was also the only airline to fly widebodies into LGA. While DL now no longer has any regularly scheduled widebodies into LGA, a domestic 763 may be rotated into there on rare occasions.

Also, isn't AA the only airline to currently fly widebodies (763ERs) into RDU?

MSP only gets NW A333s and 744s. FI's seasonal service to MSP doesn't really count because FI uses a 752 and it isn't a wide-body.

The only widebodies at SMF are the 763s from HA.

Assuming we're talking about passenger widebodies only...

MEM/ NW
SLC/ DL
BWI/ BA (UA sometimes schedules 763s to BWI; there isn't one in the schedule right now)
PVD/ S4

There are all kinds of airports overseas, too. The most obvious ones are hubs of smaller airlines.

WAW/ LO
VIE/ OS (?)
HEL/ AY

...then there are some non-hubs

IPC/ LA

Edited to remove CPH... I know DL flies there too.

HEL/ AY

True, only AY have scheduled widebody passenger traffic from HEL at the moment, though the widebody charters like TUIfly B747, 767 and Air Europa A332 are regular visitors, bringing some variety.

Even more interesting is that S4 serves BOS as well... I'm impressed they can serve both airports (albeit PVD seasonally) at a profit...

I just for a moment thought that TG serves HEL. But it is true that AY is the only scheduled wide bodied operator at HEL, to my surprise.

I don't think anyone else besides DL flies a widebody into PBI (DL currently has a twice-weekly 767-300 into PBI, which becomes more frequent in the winter months).

In that sense HEL is like OSL, a bit too small market though people travel a lot. Yes it's boring with all the AY blue-white wide bodies but as an Asia-fan I shouldn't complain, good prices to Asia often available on AY + partners.

Would be great have TG back, they served HEL shortly some 15? years ago I think. With the AY's 2x daily to BKK in winter a good price war would be ready... ,)

YHZ only has AC 767-300s.

YOW as well has only AC 767-300s; they do have seasonal AirTransat A332s.

At the current time, I believe SAN has no more 767 service from DL, but that seems to change all the time. HA is the only consistent wide-body operator since we lost BA's 777  cry  and DL switched many of their domestic wide-body routes to 757's.

Two remote points, Easter Island (IPC) and Kangerlussuaq, Greenland (SFJ) have just one widebody operator.

does NZ still operate any 767s ex WLG ? I am pretty sure that QF no longer does , so if NZ does still operate them they would be the only current widebody operator ... but I am not sure with the 'right-sizing' that has gone on in the last few years whether NZ is still using widebodies to the provinces  duck  - it always seemed to be way too much capacity ( never mind back in the day when QF used 747SPs at WLG )
