I'm in the beginning stages of planning a trip this summer and have been looking at airlines and fares for my proposed route. It appears as if EI is the cheapest airline for my dates across the Atlantic taking me from JFK to LHR via DUB and back to JFK from MAD, again via DUB.

Upon arrival in LHR I'd be transferring onwards to IST on either Turkish. I'd be aiming to take the 11:25 departure to IST on TK because the flight is operated by the A330-200.

I am aware that EI is in T1 and TK is in T3 and that upon arrival in LHR I'd have to recheck in my luggage with TK.

My question is does anyone know how much time I should leave between the transfer? The EI flight would arrive in LHR at 8:05am. Do I go through immigration at DUB or would I have to do it at LHR?

You might be able to check your baggage all the way to IST, but don't count on it.
Terminals 1 and 3 at LHR are next to each other, so after arriving you'll just have to walk a couple of 100ms to the new terminal. 3 hours should be fine, as long as there are no delays. If your baggage is checked through, and you have the TK boarding card already, 1h30 would be enough.

I assume that as an international connection in DUB, you'd stay airside - perhaps one of the DUB members can confirm?

Aer Lingus will not check your bag through to IST. They don't have an interline agreement with TK and will no longer check bags through unless you have a through ticket. I'd say give yourself at least 3 hours to transfer in LHR.

You will have to go through immigration at DUB. When you reach the baggage hall, follow the signs for connections. This map here should give you a better idea: (you'll arrive at Pier B)




If you intend buying duty-free drink on board from JFK-DUB, remember you won't be able to take it on your connecting flight to LHR. It'll be taken from you at security screening in DUB. A trap a lot of people fall into
