Air France Boeing 777-200 Economy

Fri Mar 27, 2009 10:38 pm

What is the AF Boeing 777-200ER like in economy. Is the seating still the same as the pictures on a.net from 2004? Has it changed? Does it still have old, outdated blue seats with small PTV's? Is there AVOD?

Are they different from the Boeing 777-300ER interiors?

AF has a great Y product. Totally new interior design, very elegant and attractive in my opinion. Food service is far better than any american airlines, and the crew is mostly very nice and professional. They do have AVOD.
The cons are: seat pitch, small screens (yeah, they are still the same), and the notorious rude and unhelpful AF ground staff.

But what about the 10-across seating in Y class ? Isn't that a drawback ?

It's already fitted to AF's newest B777-300s and I gather that this layout it will eventually appear on the B777-200s.

Where have you heard that? I have seen nothing to indicate that AF has plans to change from 9 to 10 abreast on the 777-200ERs. The same applies to KLM. Those aircraft are generally used on routes with higher yields than the -300ERs.

I did LAX to PAR last March and they switched the plane to a 777-300. 10 abreast in economy. The aisles were so small you could not drag your rollerbag down the aisle They have adopted even tiner carts to manage.

Was towards the back where the 3 side by the window becomes a 2 but this seat was at an angle meaning I had 2 ' of less legroom on my left side. It was terrible.

Plane stank of lavatories as we boarded. Staff were totally indifferent. People got up to use the bathroom as we were on an active taxi-way.Typical French and very snobby (I speak fluent French so I can argue and this makes one BIG difference) Food was good but portions small. Free bar. AVOD system had a malfunction. I asked the FA in our section 4 times and was promised it would be sorted. It never was. Overall it was a farce. Being Silver Medallion didnt seem to help and I was flying full rev (rare I fly non rev as I cannot get the time or space)

FA's were not a PATCH on BA or VS. We were watching the VS crew as we sat around and then our snobby lot appeared. Quite a lot older also than I expected also. In short 4/10 It got me there and it was non stop

Whats the 777-200ER like, though (not the 777-300ER)? Is it the same interior as pictured in the a.net photos from 2004 (thats the most recent AF 777-200ER interior photo)? Has any new interior been installed on the 777-200ER since 2004? From looking at the photos, it seems like the 777-200ER has an older, more outdated interior compared to the 777-300ER. I'm just wondering if things have changed since the photos were taken.

I've had only good experiences with Air France on long haul flights, even on heavily-booked flights to holiday destinations like YUL. F/As have always been friendly, helpful and pleasant. They were much better than the crew I experienced with Virgin Atlantic (no smile, they spent the whole flight sighing), BA (talk about being snobby...) or LH (cold and robotic).

The meal service is better than most airlines in Y, and it's so good to get two rounds of bread. You can also get free Champagne in Y on AF.

I believe some 777-200ERs do not feature AVOD, unless the whole fleet has been retro-fitted already.

Enjoy your flight with AF !

I flew CDG-HKG-CDG a few years ago with AF's B772ER. The seat pitch was great, really impressed with that, and the comfort was pretty good too. The crew weren't too great though as a whole; some were nice, some were miserable, but they all seemed to have a different uniform on, so it was difficult to tell a crew member from a regular passenger. Also on the ground I had taken a picture of the aircraft, where-upon a moody ground agent came and punched my camera into my face - tell me off for sure if I'm doing something wrong, hit me or the camera, no way!

In flight the IFE was useless, the only decent thing to watch was the moving map; two English movies out of a choice of about seven in total, and it was very, very slow to react and kept jamming. On the return flight there was just a single English film; the animated 1950/60s version of 'Lady and the Tramp' - wow, really impressive I don't think. The food though was pretty nice, and drinks were plentiful when you got the attention of a crew member. I'm not sure I'd fly them again though, unless they were offering the cheapest fare.

I had a very pleasant experience on an AF777-200; CDG-DXB, but yes, they still have all the things you mentioned. I give the exit row partial credit for making Y bearable. The 777-200 is inclded on the 2nd leg of my TR:

Hope this helps. Thanks
