London To South Africa Over New Year

Sat Apr 18, 2009 5:18 pm

I am trying to get to PLZ from London, UK over New Year 09/10 and wondered what the cheapest options would be. The best I have found is LHR-DOH-JNB on QR which come out to just under £500 then another £100 or so for JNB-PLZ-JNB on SA. Any other options that anyone knows about?

SA, VS and BA direct to JNB were all around the £700 mark.

SW to WDH, then connect to CPT/PLZ (train in lieu of connection to PLZ) (ca 4 hours). Check out flights straight to CT then consider taking the train from there.

£500 to JNB is very good over the Christmas break, I'd book that leg ASAP.

JNB - PLZ can also be done on Kulula (owned by Comair, the BA franchise), I've flown them before and they are very good too, LCC

1time also fly that route, they have some MD80s...

I've also flown them and was quite satisfied.

I'll be in SA myself over Christmas, flying 12th to 29th, but spending most of the time in Durban with the in-laws  Smile We're flying with KL NWI-AMS-JNB, but have yet to book the internal legs...

SW to WDH

That is a good idea as Air Namibia can (not always, but often) offer cheaper fares than some of the "big guys". It would drop you into either JNB or CPT and then connect from there like you would otherwise. Or, you can see about a LGW-WDH-LGW routing, and compare buying an SA itinerary for WDH-JNB-PLZ-JNB-WDH routing and see what's cheaper.

A tip if you book Kulula and aren't too time restricted. The 3 digit flight numbers are Kulula a/c, with BOB service. 4 digit flight numbers are BA a/c, full service  Smile
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...
