Does anyone know, as it gets closer to a departure day, if a flight has a low number of bookings in a particular cabin would BA release availability in additional reward classes to allow the seats to be used? I'm booked to go to LA in a few weeks time and am keen to upgrade from WT+ to J and Ive been checking every day for the last 3 months using ba.com but its not available? Would I have anymore luck ringing? Is it possible to upgrade using miles at the airport on the day on a space available basis?

Or should I just change to the 1600 departure where reward seats are available.

If they have seats to offer, I don't see why they should refuse to make extra money?!

I cannot answer for BA specifically, but the last 2 weeks before a flight behave in this way for US carriers.

I asked them at LHR just before checking in for LHR DFW in WT+ if I could pay to upgrade to Club World. It was about 500GBP to upgrade, so I didn't. I asked this at the BA ticket desk rather than the check-in.

They released one seat yesterday and another this morning so yipppppeeeee - upperdecktastic!!!!
