QF/BA Business Class Fare Differences

Tue May 26, 2009 6:28 am

Hi All,

I was just looking at booking a holiday to Thailand in the early new year and i was looking on both the Qantas and British Airways home websites for J Class return fares. This really REALLY surprised me. I personally love both airlines and ive flown both before. Although ive yet to try Club World.

I couldnt believe the difference in price! On the QF website the cheapest return price on an apparent 'Exclusive' Business Fare as its called, is around $6600 AUD and yet on the BA website i can fly on the exact same dates in Club for rite on $4,000 AUD! WHAT THE HELL!

Can anyone tell me how QF can justify charging more than $2000 for their J Class product.....i mean its not like its superior to BA, In my opinion BA's J looks better....?

Found this really interesting. by the way, the dates i looked at were: ex Syd 2 Feb 2010 and ex BKK on 15th Feb 2010.

Interested to hear your thoughts.

Cheers.

QF always charge more EX Aus as people seem to be willing to pay for them.

Have you looked at EK or Thai? Even SQ via SIN to fly on the A380?

Fares vary wildly between the carriers on the route - so the QF fare will not always be that much more, sometimes the reverse is true. I was looking last week for a trip to SYD in Oct and the QF fare on my particular dates was more appealing (plus the fact one leg was on the A380!)

Remember too that BA have a J class sale on at the moment too - and that will be reflected in their price
We'd like to welcome in particular our Executive Club members and those joining us from our Oneworld alliance partners.

Your dates are still very far away, and as far as I have seen, many promotions does not go that far out yet time wise.

As a general rule airlines usually charge more in there home market basically because they can. BA fares from Europe in business class are much lower and less restricted than from London. BA's product is very good I would say BA for $2000 less than QF is a good deal. Maybe Thai have some good deals as they have been having a hard time of late. I wouldn't go via DXB unless it's a very big saving the airport is a mess. It might be worth a look at SQ via Singapore or even Cathay via Hong Kong as these are excellent airlines and HKG and SIN are probably the best airports in the world. Have a good holiday

I would say BA club world on the 747 is better than the QF business on the 747.

QF don't even have fully flat beds in the 747 business class!

I've flown BA & QF in J, both do the job just fine, BA has a better seat/flat bed, at least that is my opinion.

Service & food are pretty much on a par.
