Trip To Zurich

Tue Sep 01, 2009 9:48 pm

I've used some of my FF miles on BD and booked a flight to Zurich for 2 nights and wondered if anyone had any ideas about things to do in Zurich or places to visit.

Depending on what you are interesed in. At least try some local food like "Züri Gschnätzeltes".

In case you the weather is good why do not you take a boat trip on the lake. I visit to the "Landesmuseum" is worth spending the time there. A trip to on top of the Uetliberg is also nice (you have a nice view over the city)

Hi, I can't talk about the city itself as I've only spend far too little time there (and during the city parade...) but don't forget to book a guided tour of the airport, it's really worth the few CHF involved.
Have a nice trip !

Just walk up the counter and go on the next tour.
The container currently serving as departue point, however, is located a bit secluded.

http://www.zurich-airport.com/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-213/ "Guided bus tours for private individuals and families has the details of the tour.

While displaying that page, switch to german language (Button "D" in the upper right corner) then cllick onto "Plan Rundfahrtenkasse" in the right column to display a PDF showing the location (the red building in the lower left corner).
From Arrivals 2 go outside the building (streetlevel) and cross one set of car lanes (important !) until you hit the marked cycle track. Turn right, follow cycle track under the elevated road for about 100 meters. Low building is on the right.
Machines will get you the ticket for the shuttle bus to Observation Deck E (running every 30 minutes).
However, to go onto the guided tour, walk further into the building (do not purchase the afore mentioned ticket at a machine) until you hit a counter on your left. Inquire & purchase your ticket there. Inquire if the tour will also be given in English language.
Tour will include (among other things) a short stop (5-10 min) at the famous runway cross.

Go to thread ZRH A.net Meeting Summer 2008 Aftermath Thread (by HT Aug 9 2008 in Non Aviation)
First pictures in reply #4 show what can be expected from Deck E, while the pictures after the interior of the bus were taken from the famous runway cross (we had a special tour in 2008 allowing us to stay like 1 hour there -  sigh  ).

Don't hesitate to ask if you need more info about ZRH (the airport it is).

Quoting BMED (Thread starter):
places to visit.

Not in Zürich but in Lucerne (Luzern) you find the national museum of transportation (Verkehrshaus der Schweiz). Link can be found on ZRH-website I mentioned above.

In Zürich itself, if the weather is good, consider to take a boat ride on the lake.

The guided tour also include a stop at Deck E on the way back, so you can stop there and take another bus later. Just for the info, there are a few vending machines with drinks/snacks upstairs...

Must be very nice indeed, hope to do that next year !

Just back after 2 nights and stayed at the Marriott. I have been many times but always enjoy my time in this wonderful city. Also I did a days spotting at the viewing terrace. Great views from Pier E.

Lots of nice places to eat and stroll in the old town.

Don't forget the bar started by former SR-staff on the Limmat-Quai in the centre of town - 'Wings' complete with SR J seats and service carts!

seriously though - the old town at night is a lot of fun depending on your speed - my partner and I went for 3 days last spring (from LAX!) and will go again in October: for us it's all about cafes, bars and chill-out - found the Zuerchers to be very warm and hospitable...
