UA/iPod In F & C

Thu Dec 31, 2009 11:54 pm

Although I have been in UA F & C I have not yet used my iPod/iTouch etc. Qestion, can one watch their own movies on the large screen? And if so, can UA monitor and stop people watching inappropriate movies?

I do not believe this is possible. The iPod connects to a USB Port which I don't think is supplied to you in Aircraft's Personal Monitor.

I didn't try plugging in an iPod, but the IFE menu has an option for "iPod" and there is a separate connector in addition to the USB, so I assume you can play music and watch videos over the IFE system.

i remember a long time ago Delta, UA, and CO were rumored to be implementing this, where you could watch your own content through the screen. Somehow this fell through, my guess is because they want people to buy the movies. But i'm pretty sure you can only charge the ipod through the provided USB connector

You need to buy a special adapter for your ipod to hook it to the IFE, it looks like an s-video cable on one side and a ipod connector on the other, they sell them duty free for $30 USD. and it is possible to watch it on the plane. the USB port is just for charging USB electronics, it is not connected to the IFE

That's not quite how Hemisphere's describes it. Although stlll vague. It seems to be a perk only in C & F.
I will call GS and check unless there is a UA person here that knows. otherwise what is the big deal they make about iPod ports?
