Preferred Long-haul Business Class?

Thu Apr 08, 2010 3:34 pm

Guys/Gals,

Out of the list of airlines below, which has the overall superior long-haul business class product?
Also your reasons why would be appreciated.

BR
TG
SK
LX
LH
AY

Thank you in advance!

An airline not on the list, but what about SQ

On the other hand, TG's J product seems great too.

I'm flying from Europe to BKK and these airlines have the best connections and are within budget.

If money would be no objection SQ would definitely be my airline of choice! Unfortunately the
connections with SQ are not ideal and they are over double the price for the itinerary I have in
mind and I can't justify that...

TG looks good although it seems hit and miss whether you get the new or old product.

I've always been a fan of the LH J class product (hard and soft). My experiences have been great. Crew, cabin, comfort, care, all very good. Would book them again quickly.

The other that I recommend (though it's not on your list) is KL.

Personally I would have to say either TG or LX.

If flying via ZRH you can take TG one way and LX on the return

@ planeguy727

LH seems indeed a good all-round product, definitely worth considering. My reservations with KL are
mainly about seat comfort, it hasn't receive many good reviews and frankly doesn't look comfortable.

@ 742

That is a great suggestion, two different experiences in one trip. Also TG operates the A346 on this
route, so at least there is no risk of running into the old business class product.

If you want a top notch hard product and soft product (top-notch service), go with TG. Many of the European carriers you mention have the hard product, but the service (including meals) is never going to be as great as TG. My second choice would be LX. Which...

...not a bad idea.

LX first, TG second.

LX service in all classes is pretty special, the ZRH transit is painless and actually pleasant.

I flew CPT-AMS in J on a KL 777. Found the seats to be very comfortable. I guess each person has different expectations and experiences. I don't pretend that just because I liked it that it's the right option for all.

It's possible to check if you are getting the new or old product on the 747, if it shows as Boeing 747-400 when booking it means it will be the new product. Otherwise, you can fly to ZRH or Oslo and fly from there to BKK, the flights will either be A345 / A346 so you will DEFINITELY get the new product.

I have to agree. I love Air France's Business class product. The seat might not be cutting edge technology, but ive always slept well, and the catering and general sense of "art de vivre" evident in the service is just fantastic.

It isnt all about gadgets, sometimes its the small things like the crew knowing when you need something instintively, or when you just want some quiet time, that matters.

For long haul business.

NZ
MK (air Mauritius)

Have always had a good experience on them.

BR, TG, SK, LX, LH, AY

Of these I only have own experience on LX and LH (and some others not listed).
LH's current Business Class is more than okay for me, but here I perfer the Airbi over the B747 with their 2-3-2 layout.
On LX I had the older Business Product on the A340 and found the seat less comfortable to sleep compared to LH.
Both airlines concept and way of doing business just suit my taste - and extrapolating from its Eco product short and longhaul, I suspect that also SK could be okay for me.

The new LX product is a totally different story, and their service and catering is generally better than LH's.

AY's latest A333s have the similar new fully flat seats than on LX A333. Both 340/333 used on HEL-BKK, so more likely to get to the 'old' business class with angled seats, not bad either I think.

The new AY Business Class:

And the 'old':

Both DL and AY use the same interior, it is so dislikeful. LX at least makes it pleasant on the eye with a good colour scheme. It depends where you are going, which you dont state, but I would go with whatever is direct, if not, LX or SK both provides decent service.
