Best Economy Class In Europe?

Sat Aug 14, 2010 11:18 pm

Any personal ideas as to which European airlines offer the best Y and Y+ class ?

- Shorthaul/Domestic
- Medium-haul European/Mediterranean/Western CIS
- Longhaul

- LCC (may include No-frills Y of legacies such as SN, SK...)

I highly recommend FlyBaboo, although their network is somewhat limited.

LH Y is among the solid performers for short-hauls IMO. Med/Long-Haul, however, is a different league...

Economy Class/Short Haul-Medium Within Europe in terms of Service, I would opt for AB, LH, AF.

Economy Class/Long Haul I would rate VS as a good product in Y and Y+ (good IFE and Service). AB offers competitive tickets on many long haul destinations out of DUS/MUC, except you have no personal IFE, but attentive service.

I am not fond of AF for short haul as there is no IFE at all

I thought Czech Air product was fantastic. I flew their 734 and A320. The 734 was not great but it still had plenty of leg room, and great service. The A320 was fantastic, big seats, good service, decent food, and the IFE was not bad compared to the other airlines I flew in Europe.

Thomson Airways; 33" seat pitch in Y and pretty good seat back IFE system with optional AVOD.

TK, for sure!

Also good are Cityjet/VLM merge company. On their F50's/RJ85 you'll get a good catering, usually a large fresh sandwich and chocolate, plus 2 drinks.

decent food,

They only serve a small cake/cookie in Y between PRG-AMS.

This thread is fundamentally a tad silly, since the "best" carrier may not offer any services from where you are to where you wish to be. So with that in mind ...

TK for short-haul, and by a considerable margain too. It's just like flying used to be, you know free food, free drinks, proper service, decent legroom - the lot. No IFE though, but we are talking short-haul so that's hardly a show-stopper.

Haven't done any long-haul flying in economy, ever, so can't comment. From my many enroute walks down the back of various airlines they all look equally dreadful.

Short-haul, I still love BA, even with the cut backs. The seats are incredibly comfortable, I find. Though really, most airlines are much the same in Y s/h. Have never flown TK, though, which from the above comments seems to be coming out on top!

BA are about to refresh their long-haul product in Y and Y+, which I am looking forward to trying. Both LH and AF's new product on the A380 look very nice.

Well on both flights they served me a sandwich and side snack on PRG-BCN and for someone who is from the US thats good food for a about a 2.0 hour flight. Also BCN-PRG was delayed a few hours due to french ATC strike so they gave free beverages of any kind. I found the room to be great, most room I have ever had in a narrow body in coach.
