Luxair & AirBerlin Q400's What Can I Expect?

Fri Aug 27, 2010 7:03 pm

Hi guys.

In the next four weeks, I'm gonna travel some legs on LG and AB Q400's?
What are the best seats in these birds?
And how is it about service ?
I know that Luxair is far above Air Berlin , but has anyone used them?

Thanks in advance

Johannes

Johannes:
A better view and less prop noise is at the rear of the cabin...specifically the last 2-3 rows if you can select your seats before 24 hour OLCI. It can be quite noisy up front, and near the mid-cabin area your views out will be blocked by the engine nacelle. Seats are leather covered and may not recline.
Likely a snack and beverage of your choice. Not sure if AB charges for alcohol; I believe it continues to be complimentary with LX.
Overall a nice aicraft. Enjoy your rides,
Thomas

I don,t know about the service of those 2 airlines but flying on a Q-400 is a very pleasant experience. For sure it's a bit more noisy than a jet but it's acceptable. The engine are powerful and the aircraft is very fast and if the weather is OK you
will appreciate the scenery of the flight.

Not true at all...
For sure, LG's service is far better in BusinessClass and might be better on intra European routes (even in Y).
BUT for domestic flights within Germany, AB is the better choice. AB is offering extra leg-room seats in Y (row 1 & 2)- opposite to LG (rows 1-2 is normally BusinessClass), free magazines (like Playboy), buy-on-board meals etc.!

LG offers a good product in Y on most of its European flights, the only exception being the short hop LUX-SCN, where no frills are available in Y (bot some are in J).

Y service includes complimentary newspapers, refreshing towels a decent meal box. Luxemburgish sparkling wine (Crémant) is also offered, with soft cold drinks and hot drinks as well.

On Holiday flights to the Mediterranean, the service in Y (single-class) is hard to beat: aperitif, 3-course hot meal (with packaed cheese), coffee and digestive. Pity that Comfort Class (Z) is no longer available on those flights, though, as their 738 and 73G are a bit cramped for flights above 3hrs.

SR4ever, I live in SCN, but i'm gonna fly LUX-SCN-HAM return cause it was about 100€ cheaper than the SCN-HAM sec only.

Unbelievable...

Might be hardly slower (end-to-end) to travel by ICE, even with a connection at Mannheim or Frankfurt Hbf...

Anyway, enjoy your flight, and if you can make pics of the short hop LUX-SCN, so much the better
