New AF 772 Seat Config?

Wed Mar 02, 2011 12:10 am

I am booked on an AF 772 later this month in "Premium Affaires", and the seat map online doesn't match up to anything on seatguru or af.com. Anyone know if there is a new configuration flying around out there?

Premium eco is rows 10-12 on the seat map...weird.

Perhaps this is the new 4 class? Matching seatmap exist anywhere?

Seatguru seems to be badly out of date as it also still shows Y class on the 772ER as 9-abreast. I think they're all 10-abreast now, like the 773ERs.

Premium Affaires do not exist on long-haul; only on medium-haul routes. In your case, for a 772; it's either "Affaires" (business) or "premium voyageur" (Y+).
SeatGuru is completely outdated for most AF planes. You need to look at AF web sites to have the correct seat map.

Air France B772ER have a 4 Class configuration : First, Business, Premium Voyageur, Voyageur.

The current configuration is :

First : 4 seats (1 x 2 x 1 - 1A, 1E, 1F, 1L )

Business : 49 seats (2 x 3 x 2 - rows 3 to 9)

Premium Voyageur (Economy +) : 24 seats (2 x 4 x 2 - Rows 22, 23, 24 )

Voyageur (Economy) : 170 seats (rows 27 to 48, 3 x 4 x 3 and 2 x 4 x 2 between rows 42 & 48).

Air France is currently operating a fleet of 25 B772ER, all in this configuration.
However, this month, AF will begin to convert 11 of these B772ER in a 3-Class config : Business, Premium Voyageur, Voyageur.

This new config will be :

Business : 35 seats (2 x 3 x 2 - Row 1 to 5)

Premium Voyageur : 24 seats (2 x 4 x 2 - rows 10 to 12)

Voyageur : 250 seats (3 x 4 x 3 - Rows 19 to 43 and then 2 x 4 x 2 rows 44 to 48).

So, you are probably booked in "Premium Voyageur" in this new 3 Class config.

How did AF add another seat to its 3x3x3 config in Econ? Narrower seats?

Not really narrower seat : they are now 17" width (against 18" on the A332/A343), but the aisles are definately narrow.

And the gap between the seat cushions, and the armrests, are narrower.

You are correct - it is Premium Voyageur...now have 4 segments booked on ATL-CDG-ATL 772's.

Any ideas as to which routes these re-configured aircraft will be used on? I would guess current destinations without P service would be candidates or is AF contemplating the elimination of P at some locations?

I have flown on this new Y cabin 8 times and have to say that the seats don't feel nearly as cramped as one would fear. Where you really notice the difference is in the width of the aisles, particularly if you have two passengers trying to go in opposite directions.

BKK is going to be one of them. There, the re-configured 77E is to replace a 343, already devoid of F cabin.

Really sad that AF moves to the lower-tier of the market

AF keeps the First class on the destinations where there is a demand for it ...
Why loosing money offering seats that are never booked and remain empty ?

BKK-PNH, LIM, SCL

Quite agree...and they already serve many destinations without First and yet this doesn't make them any less of a full service airline.

As far as I know, all AF 772s have already been converted to the new configuration. That's the only 772 seat map in their website.

No...there are definitely 2 different 772 configs - one 3 class, one 4 class...

11 aircraft will be reconfigured (out of 25).

None of them has benn reconfigured yet. The entire fleet is still in the 4P / 49J / 24W / 170Y config.

That's the configuration in the AF website, but isn't that fairly recent also, as the 772s were 9-abreast in Y not that long ago? When did they change to 10-abreast? I believe the 773s changed to 10-abreast before the 772s.
