Your Favourite Commercial Aircraft?

Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:05 pm

Hello A.netters!

Another question this time, what is your favourite commercial aircraft?

My top 3 are:
#1 A330-200/300
#2 B757-200
#3 B737-800

I choose the A330 because it was the first wide bodied aircraft that I ever went on and my first long haul trip which was on a TCX A332. Also I recently have been on the US A333.

The 757 is one of my favourite looking aircraft! I have been on 3 of them (all 752's) which were on ZB twice and FCA.

I went on the 738 not so long ago with DY, I loved flying on the 738. And you gotta love those winglets!

Look forward to hearing yours?

A very recent one:

The Boeing 747-8 intecontinental!

Such a beauty!

then:

1. 777-200LR/300ER

- My first international flight was on an EY 77W from MNL-AUH. I sat next to the humongous (and I mean humongous!) GE-90 engines and take off was the most spectacular take off ever.

2. 747-400

- Flew it twice last summer, sat up front and saw the engine blades, such a beauty during sunrise! The 744 also looks stunning in every angle (unlike the A380) Comfort wise, it was very quiet (I don't know about the rear though, I guess sitting near the front helps lessen the noise)

3. A340-500/600

Comfort wise, the A345/6 -- very quiet. However, take off was just boooringgggg. But both A/C looks stunning.

I'm also a fan of the A320 family.

1. 777 just love this plane and everything about it.
2. 737-800 the plane I have flown the most
3. 747-400. The Queen of the Skies nothing else to say.

1. Embraer 190. AC has fantastic utilzation of their E190s and I can go pretty much anywhere on one and not have to worry about getting a middle seat (356 flights and counting and only one middle).
2. Airbus A32X. While I like the look of the 73G/H more, I love the height of the A32X. You feel like you are towering over the rest of the narrow bodies (757 excluded!).
3. The Dash-8-100/300. The Dash will always hold a special place in my heart. I've flown on about ~210 Dash flights (only 37 Q400s) and I've loved every minute. Are they loud and do they cruise a little slower? Yes, but I love them all the same!

Special mention goes to the 757. I had the pleasure of flying on my first 757 (DL ATL-SJU) earlier this year and after hearing such great things about it, I was looking forward to flying on one. It sure didn't disapoint! I had to double check we weren't on the space shuttle as we rocked away from the ATL runway!

These are as pax, in terms of esthetics is something else. (747, by the way, still would lead the pack.)
747, all series...
777
767

I like wide-aisle more than single, and yes, I'm a Boeing fanboy.
The 747 will always be the TRUE queen of the skies!

My favorites...

To look at:

1) A330
2) BAe146/RJ85/100
3) DC10 - powerful, and a beauty in the last NWA livery.
4) Vickers Viscount - a classic.

To fly on:

1) A330 - so quiet!
2) B757 taking off from SNA.
3) B777
...and at number 8,967 on my favorites list...anything CRJ or ERJ135/145

1. The Boeing 777 family

I can't really decide between sub-types of 777s, but I'd take the -200LR and the -300ER over the others, because of the raked wingtips, and the noise of the GE90s. I remember watching highlights of the 777's first flight back in 1994, and I've had an attachment with the 777 family since. I had to wait until 2001 to get my first flight on a 777, but the moment I saw the modern looking and spacious Boeing Signature Interior, my attachment to the plane grew even stronger   There's nothing I don't like about the 777 - both in terms of aesthetic appeal and passenger comfort, although I have yet to try one with 10-abreast configuration. I'm waiting to see what Boeing does with the 777 NG. Hopefully it'll keep the 777 family line going for another 20 years.

As much as I'm a 777 fan, I'll always have a soft spot for the 747-400. I mentioned in the 'favourite registration' thread that a certain CX B744 in the old green and white stripes livery (VR-HOP) is probably partly responsible for getting me to become an aviation enthusiast. It's also the best looking subsonic commercial airliner.

I can't wait to fly on one! Everything about it looks just so right - it's perfectly proportioned, and the new GEnx engines round out the aesthetic appeal of this beauty. I miss the winglets, though.

4. Airbus A340-500

The best looking Airbus, and the second longest ranged airliner in the world

Those are the only types that I'll go out of my way to catch. Of that list, it's only the 748 (obviously) and the A345 I've yet to fly on. The rest I can take or leave. Having said that, I would love to fly on the 787 as well when it enters commercial service, and maybe it'll make it to my favourites list too!

You can't, and that is why I love them so much (the one middle was on an A320 YVR-YYZ). To clarify... when I said 356 flights, that is my total since I started working for QK 2 years ago.

Hehe, can't wait until the moment they put you on the 320neo   Do you know this guy btw? He's quite taken with the 'Bus; http://flightlevel390.blogspot.com/

And for my list;

Looks:

1. 77W: Although I'm a bit of an Airbus fanboy I can't deny it, the 77W is on the top of this list (see, even fanboys can appreciate the other vendors models). Long fuselage, powerful engines, circular cross-shape. This beast just breathes raw power, I truly love it.

2. A330: Well I'm a twin lover   Also I think the nose and wings look beautiful and the way it tilts a bit forwards on the ground just makes it look like a drag racer.

3. 757-200: For some reason she reminds me of a jet fighter. High on her legs, slender body, aggressive engines. In short, the description of my ideal woman

4. 747-8i: The previous models had engines that were to small IMHO, the -8i makes good on this. Also I like the long upper deck.

5. A380: Wait? WHAT??! That ugly thing with a forehead Frasier would be jealous of??!! Well, yep, but only head-on. And the only reason she's in the list is because of those freakishly beautiful gull-wings.

Comfort / Flying pleasure:

1. Any A340: Quiet, smooth and roomy. Also the long take-off roll gives you the change to appreciate the scenery.

2. A320: The short-haul Queen in my book. I lost count how many times I flew the small 'Bus, but she never let me down.

3. 747-400: Actually only in this list because it's a freaking icon people! A bit too loud in the cabin during cruise, but I always love those RR engines singing during take-off

4. MD8x: 5.........4..........main engines start......3..........2........booster ignition.......1.........lift off!!!. Flew a lot of these in Venezuela/Colombia and also to and from Italy. Just loved the take-offs in the last row

5. Any 777; A bit too loud during cruise, but a very safe and solid feeling airframe. Also I like to remind my non-geeky-aviation friends it has the biggest jet engines ever produced. They are almost never impressed, but I don't care

Disclaimer: I haven't flown the A380 yet, but I expect it too replace the A340 on the #1 position.

Aircraft I've flown on -

To look at: Douglas DC-8-63 (IMO the most beautiful aircraft ever built)
Boeing 757 (it looks like it wants to spread its wings and fly)
Boeing 777 (beautiful, clean lines)

As a passenger: A-320 (especially JetBlue, lots of legroom)
Avro, Northwest Airlink (every seat was like being in first class)
DC-9, F-100 or any other rear-engine plane.....as long as you're sitting up front

A-340: very quiet and elegant in all maneuvers, but cramped seating
B-777: 3-3-3 seating is comfortable, but takeoff is very loud
B-747: it all depends where you're sitting
B-737 & 757: I've always found them somewhat cramped, but they certainly get the job done
Dash-8: well, at least you feel like you're on an airplane!
DeHavilland Beaver: probably the most uncomfortable, but also the most spectacular!
