Bit of a dilemma (admittedly a nice one!)
Any opinions out there on whether to go for LHR-ICN-SYD on OZ, or LHR-BKK-SYD.
I have flown TG C class before and it was good, and I like the lounges in BKK. I've never flown OZ or travelled through ICN so would be keen to try them out, but I hear that they are a little inconsistent. The OZ flight should also be the first departure from London with their new "Smartium" seats which look very good. Of course, it could get changed and I'm stuck.
I know what I'll get with TG (which will be very good) - just curious if anyone out there has opinion whether it's worth a little gamble to try OZ.

"ICN": Connecting there is a no-brainer. New and efficient airport.
"OZ in Business Class": I only have flown them in Business Class on a regional Route ICN - FUK, albeit in a A330 configured for longhaul ops. Service and food were impeccable; out of CX, BR and OZ that I flew on that same day on regional routes, OZ was the winner.
Keep an eye on the connection times

I give OZ very high marks. Its truly a gem of an airline that many people don't know about. There have been some recent very positive TRs on them.
For TG, they are not bad, however do you get the new C class product, or stuck with the old one which still floats around the 744 fleet?

They do look good. I'm somewhat confused as to the different seats and entertainment options that they have. I know I may get the new seats on the LHR-ICN route which is great, but don't have a chance to get them on to Sydney. Their "shell" seats with the big TV's look good, but I understand that there are some aircraft without AVOD. Do these C seats look like these "shell" seats with the big screen or is it more "old" school with a 6in screen or similar? Their website isn't the most informative.

Whilst nothing is guaranteed, LHR rarely sees the old product. BKK-SYD is the A340-600 which only has the "new" C.

Have a look in the TR section, there are some negative TG C class experiences lately- might be worth to try OZ...

I believe OZ usually sends their newly configured A/C (772) to SFO and JFK regularly, IIRC if there's F class in the 772 then it has the new J, or I may be wrong.
I'd recommend OZ, yes TG has a great product and good service but based on the TRs here on a.net, they are inconsistent. OZ is very consistent when it comes to service, great catering and if you're lucky then you might be on the 772 with the Smartium seats.
And I can only say good things about ICN, transfer is hassle-free and the environment is just relaxing.

Go for OZ. I have flown both airlines in C recently, including the new Smartium seats. If you were to get the old product on OZ ex-LHR you will have to put up with 2-3-2 seating in a 777, whereas the new seats are 1-2-1 and very modern.
From what I remember of TG's 747s they were not flat-bed. ICN is a very efficient airport (though a little 'Seoul-less' in my opinion!) and the lounge there is better than the equivalent at BKK (check out the grand piano!).

OK. Asiana all booked. Turns out that the seat map currently shows slanted seats rather than the new seats. Bit disappointed as contradicts their site but the other seats are no worse than Thai seats, other than possibility of non-AVOD entertainment. Still, I'm pretty happy nonetheless.
So, TG F class to London and Asiana C class back. Looking forward to it.
