Long Haul Without IFE : Airlines/Routes?

Hello All. Can you update me on this ? What airlines are still flying long haul without IFE and what routes ?

I can think on Iran Air, Aerosur and a couple of charter airlines in Europe, but I'm sure there are more...

Air Berlin longhaul doesn't have in-seat IFE!

AA on all 763 routes. The long MIA-SCL on Y comes to mind. Longest most boring 8 hrs. And I also flew LIM-MIA last year on 757 Biz. No IFE either... It is just AA.

Thai run their 744s on some long routes and they dont have IFE at all. I did LHR-LAX on a BA 742 in the late-90s and that didnt have any IFE at all. I dont think the MU A343s have IFE actually, come to think of it. UA, some DL and AA's 767s dont have IFE, and I've been on UA 777s that didnt either. I dont think UA's 744 have it either. LH are only now fitting AVOD and a lot of their 744s and some A343s dont have it yet IIRC.

Other airlines that i dont think have individual IFE on all their LoHa flights - SA, Cubana, Monarch, Corsair?

With the advent of the iPhone and iPad IFE has become less and less important.

This seems to be trending. But airlines have not supplied with extra powerports either...

A lot have USB connectivity though, which is the same thing where iPhones, iPods and iPads are concerned.

DL is a mixed bag.
777, 330, and 764: nose to tail IFE; 747 and 763; front cabin only.

The 747s and 763s are all being refurbed over the next year or two to fix this.

Small point: 7 of the 763ERs have nose-to-tail AVOD though...

UA's 763s have PTVs in the back; only the front has AVOD. UA's 777s have PTVs, currently being refurbished to have AVOD throughout. I believe only the small domestic 777 fleet of 6 or 7 doesn't have the PTVs.

I wasn't sure where to place the 757s, honestly. What constitutesd long haul? I think there is some grey area, otehrwise you might need to mention the 738s as well.

All of Lufthansa's A330s and A340s have AVOD.

And right now at least three 747 have it too: D-ABVC, D-ABVK, D-ABVP

D-ABVO is said to be in HAM for upgrade since one week.

What ist about IB?

I flew EWR-FRA on LH 747s in 2009. No IFE. But it's not the end of the world. Honestly, when I first flew transatlantic in 1970, there was no such thing - you read a book, slept, ate a meal, played cards. Our expectations are so high in this era.

Oh there's more than just AA and their 763s. In Y, you have:

UA 744s, DL 763*/744s, US 762/757s, LH 744s*, IB 343/346s, LO 763s, EI 332/333s, SU 763s, and many others. (* A number have been refitted with AVOD)

AA's 763s are in dire conditions. Their 772s need AVOD throughout, and are in need of refurbishment as well. The 75Ls need AVOD in Y, but that's not on the priority list. With the new 77Ws coming online next year, it will be interesting to see what AA has in store.

Or only those who do not offer personal screens?

I don't think IB has any PTVs in Y class whether for short or long haul.

I have started a thread on this around a year back actually, but the list is outdated. (e.g. all of KE's long haul fleet has PTVs now)

I mean PTV's, and all the options they give to the passenger. A big old screen in front of the cabin where you "must" see the film or program the airline decide is not very helpful when you have a majority of people flying around who have cellphones that can play movies and make bets in the poker websites...( the E ion "IFE" is for Entertainment right ?

Are these rotated throughout the network, or do they fly some routes frequently? I'm traveling from FRA to BKK on Thursday on the TG 747, what are my chances of getting PTV's in Y-class?

Whole network... So it can be on its way to BKK next week or to LAX...

You have 2 options:
AH* series: Mainscreen entertainment and radio, personal entertainment players are rented out
OY* series: nose to tail AVOD....

Yeah, chances aren't too high, but getting better and better. Today I had a plane with new F class and PTV in Y class: D-ABVN, so this is for sure newly equipped and visually confirmed

This might be asking too much. Would you know if today's BKK flight has PTV's? If it helps, from the seat maps, the economy class starts at row 28 (I see on seatguru.com there are 3 different configurations). So some of the 747's would be ruled out (but I have no idea which).

Most 744s have the F8 C66 Y270 version at the moment.

It was last nights flight. Ended up on D-ABTA, glad I decided to charge up my second laptop battery at the LH Senator lounge (which by the way was excellent, much better than last time I was at FRA).

None of IB's aircraft are fitted with IFE (except in J), and in fact often on the main screens they don't even play a film...
