Cheapest Round-The-World Airline Ticket?

Fri Dec 30, 2011 5:33 pm

Does anybody know where I can find the cheapest Round-The-World airline ticket?

Also, which airline alliance would be best for this sort of ticket? (in your opinion)

Just like any other airline ticket: shop around. Prices change all the time.

Depends on where you want to go and what you're looking for. Oneworld is consistently ranked the best, while Star is the largest.

Well, it's really like any other ticket. RTW fares are extraordinary. Prices vary greatly depending on where you start from. Right now, RTW Business Class fares out of CPH start at $6400 USD. Same flights are about twice as much starting in the US.

Star allows you to backtrack within a region (though only one stopover per city). In the past, I have flown Europe-YVR-HNL-LAX-JFK-SFO-HKG-ICN-Europe.

If you Google search - Round the world ticket - it will show you several companies doing it out of London. Prices starting from around £800 for a 4 or 5 stop RTW. Just as an example = LHR-BKK overland SIN-BNE overland SYD-LAX-LHR. I think it's fantastic value & defo on my list of trips to do.

Hope it helps. Rgds

NZ has had fine RTW fares when I look at them. (LHR-LAX-AKL-HKG-LHR)
Nothing compares to taking off in an empty 757 with full thrust!

My friend and I got back from a 5.5 month RTW trip in early November. The 5 continent J class fare was $12999 plus about $500 in taxes. I highly recommend oneworld. Star is very strong in Europe, but I find that to be the least valuable place on the planet to be strong, due to the prevalence of low cost carriers and trains. oneworld RTW + Eurail/Interrail pass = win. Star has a pathetic presence in South America, while LAN is quite strong. I'd also rather have QF+JQ over NZ.

If you PM me, I'd be happy to give you some additional tips regarding making the most of your RTW trip.
