JAL 777 Returns To Tokyo After Hydraulic Leak

Tue Jul 09, 2013 9:27 am

According to The Guardian newspaper there was another incident with a Japanese 777 bounding to SFO leaking its hydraulics and returning to Tokyo. Any more info about it ? Thank you.

Pretty much, yah.

Lots of boring, non events getting blown out of all proportion to come.

Stand by for reports of "Passenger terror" when the next aircraft (that just happens to be a 777) suffers a mild wobble from turbulence.

OK, now within the next 3 weeks, each time a B777 will "fart" somewhere in the world will make the big "headline news" ...

Why does no one outside this site seem to care that the DH3, an airplane that is much more objectively unsafe than the very safe 777, crashed in an accident with six times as many deaths as OZ214?

There is a thread about the Alaska crash:

Please try to stay on topic. Many thanks.

And SFO!!! I mean if an aircraft heading there 3 days after the crash experienced a hydraulic leak, the airport must be cursed!!!

I think the SF Giants should play their home games in Houston, just to be safe.

Well, maybe this will get the media to stop wetting their pants in excitement every time a 787 suffers a burned out light bulb. They'll focus on the 777 for a while.

"Mid-air incident?"

I think this title is a little sensationalistic. Makes you think it collided with something.

Mid-air is exactly where I'd want that airplane to be. As opposed to in outer space, or inside a volcano.

In other news .... "A regional jet enroute to ________ from __________ had a scary flight ... the coffee pot was out of service, flight landed okay and passengers were transferred to their connecting flights on schedule - stay tuned to the 11 o'clock news for developing details"

A Japan Airlines 777 bound to SFO had a hydraulic leak in the flaps and was diverted back to Tokyo. Thats all folks, nothing more to see. Mods, please change the title and remove "Mid-Air Incident" as there was no such thing.

Gotta love the media. The proven T7's been in service for 18 years....with hundreds in active service today, for crying out loud.

I also heard about a unindentified 777 that had one of its lavatories INOP for more than two hours over the Atlantic just a few hours ago...

I should've seen this coming when my flight UAL940 diverted to YYT back in April.

Surely there's a connection between a malfunctioning galley oven and this latest incident?

Its amazing the lack of media attention this is getting when so many more perished. Wonder if the media finds it dull because it was a small airplane in comparison and in a much more remote location than SFO?

That is what I think it is. The 777 is the "sexy" news and a lot more focus is going to be put on it as people see more of them than the DH-3.

Another incident with a Japanese 777 leaking hydraulics? Does that imply that there had been a prior incident with a Japanese 777 leaking hydraulics?

Sarcasm alert: during well over a decade of operations with Japanese carriers covering many thousands of flights? Surely the answer is yes.

The DH-3 is a plane most people will never fly. Most people don't even know what it is. As for the news about the crash, people and media see it as a small plane that has always been more risky to fly, probably with an inexperienced pilot.

As for the OZ214 incident. It is one in the 777, a plane built by one of the large manufacturers, and a plane that readers are likely to have flown or will fly in the near future.

As for news-worthiness, I do believe it is more news worthy. Although the DH-3 crash was more tragic due to lives lost, the OZ crash was in a plane with such a good safety record, and the cause of the crash warrants greater media scrutiny.

If pure death tolls dictated what makes the news, then neither plane crash should have made the news....

LOL, My first thought was "I wonder if Reuters wrote the piece?" - since they have in the past had a decidedly pro-Airbus slant.

Sure enough, if you look at the Guardian article, it is signed "Reuters in Tokyo".

Initially I thought you had gone bananas until I checked...you're right. That's surprising given the large Japanese community in the Bay Area. Sure, JAL isn't a member of *A, but still...

Although the DH-3 crash was more tragic........

Okay I'm going off topic but I'm putting on my pedantic hat. The DH-3(DH.3) was a WW I British Bomber. DH3 is also the Air Canada abbreviation for the Dash 8-300. The DHC-3 Otter is the aircraft that tragically crashed in Alaska.

As for the OP topic..... as long as the Asiana pilots weren't flying it, all should be well.

Now that I'm finished with my sarcasm, I would highly recommend the deletion of this thread as all it is is a trolling mission.

Cheers,

John

Hey, about 10 years ago, I was on a 777 flight, and my IFE screen didn't work! I had to change seats! The horror!
