BA 747 In YWG Right Now

Thu Sep 12, 2013 12:56 pm

Looking out the windows of the lounge, and I can clearly see a BA 747 parked outside. Tried to find out where it came in from but couldn't get any info.

Probably a diversion, eh?

Why No Transatlantic Service At YWG? (by KLSMB Sep 7 2013 in Civil Aviation)

BA must have read the thread above and decided to take action....

BA 275 LHR - LAS came into YWG with a medical emergency yesterday and apparently went tech afterwards.

Edit: Aircraft is not supposed to leave at least until this evening.

Hope the poor bastards have not been bussed to one of Winnipeg's fine casinos as a substitute for LAS.

I was walking to the park with my kids last night, and saw it fly right in front of me. Really super low, especially that far into the city.

Then saw it sitting on the tarmac while I was on lunch break today.

Don't see these birds in town here much if at all anymore. Cool to see.

Looks like you could of been even more lucky, at one stage BA had two 744s on the ground at YWG.

BA275 operated by G-BNLV diverted during LHR-LAS to YWG due to medical emergency, she then went tech while on the ground and the crew went out of hours before the aircraft was able to continue.

They sent a 744 from IAD to YWG to collect the passengers from the 275 and continue up to LAS, this aircraft then continued LAS-LHR and the BA216 IAD-LHR was cancelled with the passengers from this flight being accommodated on the other IAD flights.

The IAD-YWG ferry flight. YWG airport website shows arrival 2107 and departing for LAS at 2200, meaning psgrs on the Wednesday LHR-LAS flight will be arriving roughly 30 hours late.

The BA website is showing Wednesday's LAS-LHR flight that should have departed at 2115 Wednesday delayed until 1500 Friday, almost 2 days late. Depending on loads I guess some of Wednesday's LAS-LHR passengers would have been rebooked on the regular Thursday flight which appears to have operated normally, or rerouted via other cities.

In any case, sounds like an expensive medical diversion as passengers in both directions (and maybe some of the IAD-LHR passengers) will no doubt be entitled to the EU compensation payments for the delays, plus the hotel/meal costs in both YWG and LAS.

Probably no photos of the 2 BA 744s on the ground together at YWG since the rescue flight would be after dark.

What happened to the 744 that diverted to YWG? Is it still in YWG or was it ferried back to LHR? What was the tech problem?
