When Will QF16 Move To Tom Bradley International?

Fri Nov 29, 2013 5:04 am

I just landed in Brisbane after flying QF16 LAX-BNE and it departed from Terminal 4 at LAX, which was HORRIBLE. It pales in comparison to the new TBIT terminal.

I am actually shocked that a premium airlines like Qantas would subject their passengers to such an experience. Horrible boarding process, pathetic duty free, there is 1 sit down food outlet. Not good enough for a 14 hour flight to Australia.

I could also tell that at the time there was plenty of free gates at TBIT, which leads me to assume it's a contractual agreement with AA or LAWA.

Please tell me that they are moving QF16 to TBIT at some stage in the future?

It may also be a cost issue for QF with the cost of using the AA gates much less than the TBIT gates.

Well it makes them look bad, they don't have a streamlined product. Even VA is considering moving all LAX-Australia departures to TBIT.

Is TBIT nice? Haven't flown through LAX since it opened. How does it compare to SFO? Or, raising the bar a touch, somewhere like SIN?

While it's not as "green" as Singpore is, it certainl is as modern, if not more modern. Very airy feel. It's a nice very nice terminal.

Pain in the rear trying to standby on QF LAX-Australia last winter! Just trying to get to BNE, Nonstop or via SYD or MEL. Had to make 3 trips back and forth between terminals. Ah the joys of nonreving!

Try flying for T2 at LAX, just as horrible. TBIT may be becoming good, but LH flying from LAX sucks mostly.

It and all of AA's international flights are moving to TBIT.

T4 is lacking right now because it's under major construction. The food court is almost done. It will feature five permanent restaurants and a food truck that will rotate with different LA-based food trucks Serving their menus a few weeks at a time.

TBIT is very airy and spacious but be prepared to queue for the lift if you're going to the CX/BA/QF lounge. One lift with a maximum of 14 pax! We flew QF12 and had to queue for the lift for quite a while.
The oneworld lounge is nice but with 2 oneworld A380s and a B744 all departing that evening it was packed.
Apathy? . . . Who cares?

That lounge is closing in a few months. A new OW lounge is almost done.

The major build-out looks to be complete. It's now down mainly to installing kitchen equipment and furnishings. Spring 2014 is my guess.

It isn't. I understand that is contractual (no idea what) but QF are moving soon (next year?)

Terminal 4 at LAX, which was HORRIBLE

During the renovations of TBIT in 2011/early 12 T4 was a few trillion times better than TBIT. I chose QF16 to use T4! But I agree that now the renovations are complete that TBIT is vastly improved.

They are moving all departures to TBIT ... but you must check-in at T3. Wonderful system!
