OMA-DEN-EWR-BOS-LAX day 1
LAX-IAD-MIA day 2
MIA-ORD-DEN-OMA day 3

.....all for the miles and not one RJ! I'm only in the states about 1 month/year and it's tough keeping the 1K status.

Hi everyone,

One of the craziest route I've done was MEL-BNE-SIN-KUL-CGK in less than 24 hours, all in Economy.
MEL-BNE in QF B738, BNE-SIN in EK 77W, SIN-KUL and KUL-CGK both in MH B738.

According to gcmap :
Direct MEL - CGK is 3235 miles.
Detour MEL-BNE-SIN-KUL-CGK is 5553 miles.

Many called it stupid, but hey I need the miles to qualify my OW membership and the price was quite reasonable at that time.

Regards,

Nonrevved DFW-IAH-MIA-LAX-DFW last fall.

Spent the night in IAH, then flew the next 3 legs the next day, managing to snag breakfast, lunch, and dinner all in first class (one meal per leg). Even got F in the 777 from MIA-LAX, as well as a water cannon salute on arrival because it was the captain's last flight! I was supremely lucky that weekend.

Not really crazy, but when I was in Australia last year, I took Qantaslink opb Sunstate Airlines Q400 flight SYD-CFS-SYD. Not much Q400 service in Chicago, I think Porter is the only option out of MDW and I wanted to fly on a Q400. One day while in the office in Sydney, I looked at the Q400 routes and CFS seemed like the best choice and booked it. One weekend I flew up there, got a cab to my 1960's Psycho style motel, walked around the beach and city for a while, grabbed dinner and a few beers, walked back to my motel. Then after waking up the next morning, flew back to SYD. Was a $250 steak dinner and Q400 flight, but I loved every minute of it.

SWF - ATL - SEA via AirTran. It was convenient and cheap and really didn't add too much extra time.

Mine is crazy not so much for the routing but for the timing...

JNB-SID-ATL-CLT-PGV-CLT-EWR.... JFK-JNB. 17,646 miles.

Departed JNB Tuesday evening
Arrived JNB Friday evening
Business meeting in Greenville on Wednesday afternoon: 4 hours.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Flown AMS-ZRH-IST-MUC-FRA-AMS in one day just for fun. The fare was actually lower than the direct AMS-FRA flight.

CMH-ATL-BOS on Delta. I've also done SEA-ATL-CMH, with the sole purpose of that being to get the 767-300ER (and, to be fair, it was cheaper).

Forgot about this one:

Flew TUS-DEN-SEA on F9 so I could fly on one of their new (back then) A320, then switched to AC to continue SEA-YVR-YYC so I could fly on AC for the first time, visit YVR and YYC for the first time, and first ride on an E190 (YVR-YYC).

Coming back home is was simply YYC-DEN-TUS on OO.

Was traveling to YYC for a race then to spend a week in Banff Nat'l Park...which was AMAZING. Was very impressed with YVR as well...beautiful terminal. Totem poles gave it great local character unlike the "plain vanilla" terminals in most places. Good service on AC, too.

Last year I paid $250 to drive to JFK from my home in Southern Jersey, and fly JFK-PHL with Delta Connection just to fly through the Worldport.

But this year when I was planning my upcoming St. Maarten trip, I decided to meet my friend at his house in Florida the day before, so I had to get from PHL to FLL day before. Nonstop flights with US Airways were $120 in an A320, but for $130 I could fly the 767-200 to CLT, and a 737-400 to FLL! Of course there was a schedule change so it looks like I'll still be on the 762, but I'll be on an A319. Then, the next day I'm flying AA's 737-800 to SXM, and a pair of B6 E190s to FLL.

Not really on purpose, but REALLY wanting to be somewhere on a weekend netted this as a non-rev.

Friday evening:
SAT-PHX-SLC

RED EYE
SLC-CLT-DCA

Return on Sunday morning:
DCA-CLT-SAT

So yes, I went west to go east, and stopped in 3 places just to spend 24hrs in DC.

Aren't some of the airlines trying to crack down on this? DL's new frequent-flyer mileage awards seem like a nail in the coffin to mileage runs. Anyone else following suit yet?

Couple of years ago, i took HYD-DEL-FRA-ORD-SEA

Back in 2010 I flew AMS - ATH - ZRH - TLV - ZRH - ATH - AMS

I did this, because the flight from ATH to TLV with Aegean Air would changed to arrive at 5:00 am and I didn't think arriving at 5:00 am on the sabbath would be a good idea... also, i wanted to fly on SWISS's A332's on the route ZRH - TLV before they were leaving the fleet.
As of Dec 2019 I've flown 457,440 miles on 270 flights on 54 airplane types with 60 airlines traveling thru 104 airports. I've visited 60 countries.

It wasn't on purpose, and it's not as crazy as some of the other routings people have posted here, but back in 1998-99 or so (maybe later- I'm not certain), my family got an interesting routing for the YX OMA-DCA route. For some reason, the afternoon direct flight had been cancelled several hours in advance, so we ended up getting rebooked OMA-MCI-MKE-DCA. I may not have fully appreciated it at the time, but in hindsight, three DC-9s in a day was pretty awesome!

CLT-CDG-CLT-FCO-CLT-GRU-CLT did that last year as a milage run, got something like 50,000 miles. Cost me an absoloute fortune and my mum thought I was crazy but eventually understood. It took me 3 or 4 days and I was stoped at immigration in France, Italy and Brazil because it was suspicious that I entered those countries but was leaving on the same day.

I also did this year CLT-BOS-CLT-PHX-CLT, just so I could get on US Airways domestic A330 flights.

Most recently I was scheduled to fly MSP - NRT - BKK - RGN but due to the shootings at LAX the previous day, they were looking for volunteers to be bumped from the flight on MSP - NRT. I volunteered (received a $1000 voucher) and asked to be routed to AMS and then on to BKK with KLM instead of spending an additional 24 hours in MSP - which would have meant, you know, going home and waiting until the next day. They agreed and after this trip I had completed my first round-the-world trip.

MSP - AMS - BKK - NRT - MSP

Hi all,
My craziest flight would probably be:
Sydney-Alice Springs-Darwin-Kununurra-Derby-Broome ..... All done as one Ansett flight within an 18 hour period. I remember checking in finally at my hotel in Broome way past midnight!
The return flight was also interesting. My very clever travel agent (yes, this was pre-Internet) found an Ansett 'flight' Broome to Sydney that included a free night's accommodation in Perth in the Hilton Hotel! AND a free late checkout which allowed me to get a few hours planespotting at Perth Airport!
I miss Ansett!
I have also done weird Chinese domestic flights to try to log flights on different types... Captured the A319 and A321 on China Eastern that way but completely missed the MD-90s when my two attempts were foiled by substituted 737-800 and A320 jets!
I am exactly the kind of person who loves weird routes to log certain planes...
Cheers,
Bunumuring.
I just wanna live while I'm alive!
