Quoting prosa (Reply 1): Other than LAX and HNL, neither of which matches, did JL and QF serve any other US airports at the time? |
Yes, if the 1970 date is correct, both
JL and
QF were serving
JFK then.
JFK was part of their around-the-world service until the 747 replaced
JL's DC-8s and
QF's 707s on their North American services when they dropped the transatlantic tag-on sectors (and QF dropped JFK completely for quite a few years).
In their March 1970 timetable
JL operated daily with DC-8-62
HND-
SFO-
JFK (JL2 eastbound, JL1 westbound). Twice a week it continued
JFK-
LHR and once a week
JFK-
ORY with 5th freedom rights, connecting with their Europe-Japan multi-stop services. Until the DC-8-62 went into service in the late 1960s, there was another stop at
HNL.
In the July 1971 timetable
QF was still operating the
SFO-
JFK-
LHR tag-on sectors 3 days a week with 707s. Their first 747 was delivered in July 1971.
