LAX is now a smoke-free facility in all public areas including technically outside by the street curb even though you'll see people smoking there. There were outdoor garden areas past security in different terminal that used to allow smoking, but they have all become non-smoking. For info, e-cigaratte use is also banned at the airport.

Last week when I flew in the smoking areas on the curb were still clearly marked and the cigarette disposal bins were still in place. Is this a recent change that hasn't been fully implemented?
Its part of the broader LA City outdoor smoking ordinance.
They need to do much better job of enforcing it as the airport roadways are private city property like the LA Zoo or other city owned sttractions where smoking is prohibited.
