Flying EK, But Which FFP To Join...?

Sun May 10, 2015 9:10 pm

Good Evening all,

Just to elaborate a little on the thread topic,

My family & I (2 Ad & 2 Ch) will shortly be flying LHR-DXB rtn on EK., and on EK ticket stock.

Just so we can earn miles on this trip, which do you think would be the best FFP to join ... EK, QF, JL..?
would prefer one with a household account that lets us pool the mileage.
FYI, if we join SKYWARDS, the EK FFP, we will get 3000 miles each for the journey,
plus I believe an additional joining bonus of 5000 miles.
Would this be correct...?

any help greatly appreciated.
thanks
T

I don't know about the others, but Skywards is a terrible loyalty program. Redemption flights are expensive in miles (and can only do saver level rewards as a return) AND cost a lot in cash as well.

Quoting Armodeen (Reply 1):

Couldn't agree more. I would check to see if your tickets earn miles with Alaskan Airlines. They program is quite good with reasonable redemption rates and a variety of partners.

I remember if you have registered certain peoples as your family member,
everytime they fly EK you can earn certain % of miles on top of the normal miles,
and miles between family members can be shared,
so you may later to group all the miles into a single person's account to redeem tickets.
it is better then everyone have XXX miles in their FFP accounts seperately.

Unless you will be flying EK a lot, you would be better off putting the miles into an affiliated airline program at a lower earn rate (ensure the ticketed class earns miles) than to create/maintain EK accounts.

If you're based in Europe, you can spend EK miles on EasyJet. In case that helps at all...

Have you considered Korean Air FFP Skypass? You can collect miles with your EK flights. Skypass seems to have attractive family scheme as well.

NOT Qantas, that's my only recommendation. Beyond only earning 25% miles on discount Y (as issued on EK stock), QF has all the draw backs of EK (few award seats, high mileage redemptions, expensive co-payment) with the added element that the program is very strongly weighted to reward those who fly QF metal/stock. I would not recommend QFFF to any non-Australian (or at least someone who flies an awful lot on QF metal), and would generally recommend most non-Australians use AAdvantage for their QF flights. In light of that there's no way I would recommend it for partner metal!
