Your Favourite And Least Favourite Aircraft

Wed Sep 23, 2015 5:03 pm

Hey everyone tell us what your most favourite and least favourite aircraft of all time.

My favourite would be the 747-400 the eternal Queen of the skies. Just a fantastic looking aircraft from any angle.

My least favourite would have to be the 767-400. I mean what a dud plane only two airlines ever bought it and it couldn't compare to the much superior A330.

My favorite would have to be the Vickers VC-10. I like both variants but I personally thing the Super looks in proportion.

My least favorite would be probably be the Ilyushin IL-86. Nothing terribly wrong with it, just a bit plain to look at and was a bit outdated when it entered service. Would still love to fly on one.

Favorite: Lockheed L-1011. I can't really explain why other than I think it looks cool.

Least favorite: Boeing 737-800. It's like the Toyota Camry of airliners. It's reliable and reasonably efficient and versatile, and I understand why airlines love them, but they're so common and boring.

your most favourite and least favourite aircraft of all time.

DC10-30/MD11 favourites. for look and for flying experience. (well anything by McDonnell Douglas is up there for top award)
Caravelle gets honourable mention too.

Least favourite to fly on 787/A350. Yawn. without any personality. So generic. You can barely tell what aircraft you're flying on an A350,
Least favourite to look at A350..Butt ugly and mis-proportioned.
Least favourite to photograph either Citation 1,II,II,IV etc or anything where the winglets get in the way of a good profile shot with full registration.

Favorite: 707
How can you beat the plane that brought on the jet age and is synonymous with the glamour of air travel. Wish I was old enough to have flown one. It just looks absolutely stunning, too...perfectly proportioned.
Least Favorite: A320
It's ubiquitous and nondescript, IMHO. The 737, although equally ubiquitous, looks much better. The 737 nose looks virtually the same as the 707 and 727, and that's what makes it beautiful IMHO.

Favorite: Boeing 747 of course. I also love the look of the A330 but its design is more simple and boring than that of the 747.

Least favorite: Definitely A350. Its sharp nose, weird "winglet", and worst of all those raccoon eyes....

Favourite: A321, preferably all economy, me seated somewhere in the back, and I see the entire length of the plane.
Least favourite: I haven't got one but my wife suggests Fokker 50 because whenever we get one, the windows are horrible and we cannot take any decent quality photos

Favorite: 757-300. It's so looong and so attractive!
Runner up: 777-200. It kind of looks short (especially in UA's livery) but looks very attractive.
Least favorite: A320. It looks very run-of-the-mill and very boring.

I had a really hard time deciding whether the A320 or 737 was my least favorite. I picked the 737 because while the A320 does look nondescript, as a passenger I do like the wider aisle.

My favorite ride is between the DC-10 and 727, I found both very comfortable and sturdy.
Least favorite ride, CRJ-100/200. Honorable mention is the ERJ-145 with the wild card being the RJ85.

Favorite airliner I've flown, hands down it's the 727 as you all know.
I don't really enjoy flying the 320 series but it's a nice airplane to get a paycheck to fly if that makes any sense.
I have permanent hearing damage from flying the Lear so that ranks as my least favorite thing ever.

Favorite: 757-200. I've read on plenty a message boards that pilots who have flown them think they are sports cars.

Least Favorite: Airbus A340-600. That plane is sooo long and the length kills its aesthetics.

Favourite: CONCORDE! Always. The *true* Queen of the Skies.
Of ones that are still around, the A330-300 is top. I love the way it looks.

Least favourite:
737. Or A320. So very plain, symbolic of mundane travel. But the A321 is cool and so the 737 wins the boring plaudits.

I'll play:

Favorite: My own plane, or the IAI Arava.....but airliner-wise: MD-11.
A330 is nice too.

Bottom of the barrel: All things DC-9, MD-80 etc etc.
Hate how it sits so low the ground.....just ugly to look at.

A close second-favorite to the DC-9 family would be the 757 and 767.

They're too low. I just flew a CR2 DTW-ITH (N820AY) today and while the seats are not terrible and the entire flight experience was surprisingly good, the windows are really hard to look out of, as I had to bend my neck and back to look out of them. Does anybody know why they are so low? IIRC, the CR2 has the same fuselage diameter as the CR7 and CR9, but the windows on the latter two are positioned much better to look out of. Is there a reason for this difference?

I believe it's because the cabin floor was raised when it was adapted from the Challenger fuselage, but not the window line. Since the -700/900 was a new design, they at least had a chance to fix it.

Always liked the A340-600.

Least favourite to fly would be the 737, just because they are everywhere, and I've flown them plenty, so never really looking forward to those trips. Nothing particularly wrong with them, just too ordinary.

Favourite: Boeing 777. All series. I love everything about it, from the way it looks to the way it sounds. The circular fuselage cross section, and proportionally oversized engines, and that screwdriver-like tailcone all combine to make one beautiful aircraft, not to mention the gorgeous Boeing Signature Interior.

Least favourite: Airbus A343. Flew on one of these on SQ, from SIN-YVR via ICN, which was one of my worst flights ever. There's also something not quite right about the way it looks: those engines are too small.

Can't beat the comfort of the Embraer 170/190. Most pleasant flights I have ever taken.

Most exciting plane: an empty 757. When you're one of 30 on-board, you get a rocket ship take-off.

My favorite is probably the 747, any model. The -8I possibly is the best of them all. But the VC10, A345 and B720 are also pretty sweet. The Russians also make good looking aircraft. To fly on I like the A330, but nothing beats the 380.

Least favorite, I dunno as I love all aircraft, the Piper Navajo really annoys me for some reason. The Beech 1900D is about as ugly as it gets. To fly on, the 1900C was a pretty rough flight.

Of all the bizjets, Cessna is the only one late to the game with winglets!! AFAIK only the 750 X has them and all the ones you mention do not have winglets at all, unless you meant Gulfstreams.

That must have been a while ago, they used the 77E latterly. Pretty intrigued what you didnt like about it, looks dont make a bad flight and SQ have a good reputation, Ive flown a few 343's and they have been quite nice.

I'm probably the only one on here who will defend the CR2, as it would appear most people on this forum want to take torches and pitchforks to every last one   The only bad thing about the CR2 in my book is the placement of the windows. I have flown mostly 9E DL Connection CR2s, and while it's nothing to write home about, the seats aren't bad and legroom isn't terrible (I'm 6'). Furthermore, in Y, 2-2 seating is going to be better IMHO than 3-3 on 737s and A32Xs, especially if you take the window seat (which I almost always do). Also, CR2s usually fly pretty short segments, so even if you hate it, the suffering is not for very long. On the other hand, a transcon flight on a 737, 757 or A32X in the middle seat is infinitely worse than any CR2 experience I have ever had. Just my

Favourite:

I really enjoyed my 1 ride on an Airtran 717, and my return trip on a family holiday to Turkey on a MD-83. Really quiet and comfortable planes.

Very much enjoyed my time on Avro's/146's.

Honorable mention for the Embraer 170, comfy, quiet and those windows!

Disliked:

Took an AA 77W from JFK-LHR and it was the most miserable aircraft I've ever been on, not comfortable at all and it took an entire week to get off the bloody thing on arrival.
But thats northing compared to an AS CRJ-700 I got from PDX-LGB, absolutely horrible spending 2+ hours with my knees around my ears and a broken back from trying to look out of the window. The seat back hight was also extremely low so I spent most of the flight looking at the back of the chap in fronts' head.

From what I've flown -

Least - CR1/2. As everyone has mentioned, the windows are a huge negative for me.

Favorite: Boeing 717 (imagine that). If for the sound of the engines alone. Then the MD90 and down to the various 80s.

I've only ridden on a 777 once, many moons ago, and that was a treat.

Least favorite: I detest the CRJ100/200. 737s are boring, but always get me there in relative comfort and reliably. I love the 757, but I hate being in the farthest aft seats, especially with turbulence. Everything gets amplified back there and it's a bumpy ride every time.

Aesthetically I love the 747... beautiful aircraft.

As a passenger, anything that has narrow seats: 737, 777 (3-4-3), 787 (3-3-3), Avro RJ (3-3), and the worst of all, the CRJ.

I really like the 77W. Such a great design with massive engines. I also like the A380. That wing seems to go on forever.
My least favorite was the A300. The rudder problems did not go over well with me and I always felt uncomfortable on it. The B737 is boring to me

I thought that plane also had a design flaw with the rudder. There was another incident when the plane took off from MBJ headed to JFK and had to stop in MIA with rudder problems. Some passengers decided not to get back on. They worked on the plane then I remember hearing it flew even worst.
