Dirty Planes - 2015

Fri Oct 30, 2015 9:02 pm

I notice we haven't had a thread like this in quite a while...

Which planes flying around out there are filthy dirty? Are there any airlines out there forgetting to get the wash cloths out?

The worst offender always used to be AF... how do they fare these days?

As you might know I hate Air France with a passion, but I'll have to admit they fly much cleaner planes than 5 years ago. Some of the US legacies used to be frequent offenders as well (both in terms of dirt and paint peeling off), but this has gotten much better too. Not sure who I'm going to nominate in this thread. Looks like the skies have become cleaner lately.

Not a 2015 thing so much, and less related to cleaning, but N587UA used to be one ugly bird. Faded, peeling Battleship grey. She's since been resprayed and wingletted.

The leader in the US seems to have become GoJet for United Express. Just filthy and clearly patched together with different painted parts and speed tape every where.

I instantly thought of SAS too, but I've been beaten to it. That's 3 votes for SAS then!

The GoJet Delta Connection birds are equally bad and ExpressJet (legacy ASA side) is a pretty big offender. Oddly enough, the EV CRJ-700s seem to be worse than their 200s are. Those planes are beat up on the inside and out. I have flown on EV CRJ-700s with windows so scratched that you can't see out of them at all and first class seats held together by duct tape.
First flight: NW DC-10 MKE-MSP December 1996
Most recent flight: DL/9E CRJ-900 ATL-MSN January 2021

Fortunately, those are being refurbished right now. I flew on one of the newly updated birds and it was night and day. They're hoping to have all the CRJ-700s done in 2016.

AF just had one of their planes sprayed with graffiti

Does that count as dirty?

Not dirty per se, but she could really use a respray

Though it's not 2015. I'm surprised no one ever mentioned the late Ghana Air! Many of their passengers would transfer to domestic flights at BWI and try to take dried smelly maggoty fisheads.

On many domestic US flights, I see Americans bring onboard smelly fast food which stinks out the cabin. Your point?

Dirtiest planes are Iberia old livery. And dirtiest single plane I have ever seen was a Lufthansa A340-600 at KIX, and my home airport is AF's hub!!
I tend to think that for some reason Airbus aircraft get dirtier than Boeing ones regardless of the airline.
