Your Dream Hub...?

Just for fun, If you could have ANY airline hub at your home airport that doesn't currently hub there, what would it be and why?

PDX is my home airport and if Alaska didn't have a hub here, I'd like jetBlue to hub in Portland.

Mine would be an American hub at ISP. Or a JetBlue hub in CHS.

Oh man, my home airport is CLT and it's the home of AA 2nd biggest hub. But I'd take JetBlue in a heartbeat.

Why? I first flew JetBlue for the first time in 2007 when I was 8... Was in awe of the TVs and all the good snacks...being a younger kid and being able to watch your favorite shows was awesome. Fastforward to my teen years my mom and I at the time haven't flown jetBlue inawhile, we flew FL a ton ever since 98' and my answer to this question would be different if FL was still around...miss them horribly. Anyways I was at age where my mom was letting me book all the flights so I wanted to fly JetBlue for our summer vaction in S13. The second I stepped on the B61088 for JFK I remmeber how much I loved this airline. Had a nice layover in JFK and once my flight to LAS pulled up I thought my life was complete when I got to fly I Heart NY to LAS. Havent looked back since. I'm currently attending the Univerity Of North Dakota to make the dream of becoimg a JetBlue pilot come true.

Btw, even though PDX isnt a hub for B6...You guys have some nice service with JFK,BOS,LGB and seasonal ANC

A low-cost carrier base in GUA. That doesn't seem like it's going to happen anytime soon given Viva Centroamérica (I don't think that's exactly the name but it's something like that) announced its base will be in SJO.

Absolutely right! I love the options that B6 offers out of PDX and hope that BOS and ANC go year round at some point. Would love MCO and FLL added to the list as well!

A hub for where you live?

You're not planning to inter-line through your home airport, now are you?

What you want is a good range of destinations from home. You dont need a hub for that - what am I missing?

EDI does quite well for the size of the city nowadays, a lot of work has gone into getting the airport to the level it should be at by the new owners. However if I could have it my way I would like EasyJet to have a hub the size of their LGW base here in EDI. The airport couldn't handle it but it would be pretty cool :P

VX (focus) in AUS - Swiftly growing market *not* competing with 2 carriers that call the city their home.

AS (focus) in SJC - Could prove a great interliner for many of the new Intl carriers there, and give south bay tech traffic an alternative to UA for a mileage loyalty. Definitely enough demand here for at least a focus city.

GRU and GIG for Azul instead of their current selections.

BCN for DY.

A United hub in MEM BOM and SYD!
Or at least a MEM focus city to serve the SE USA better!

Mine would've been Kai Tak remaining open as a commuter/private jet airport, once Chek Lap Kok took over as the gateway to Hong Kong.

Unfortunately, that probably still would've negated the use of the famous checkerboard approach, but it would've been awesome to still have Kai Tak around, regardless.

Mine is Virgin America at Denver! I'd take jetBlue, too - since we lost what Frontier once was.

I also miss the good old days when both Continental and United hubbed at Stapleton Airport in Denver. The golden tails with the red meatballs of Continental, and the red and blue tulips of United was a sight to behold!!

There's no highway connecting KaiTak to Central, and when you look at how horrible the local road traffic is, you nearly save no time by flying into "KaiTak-Teteboro" compared to just using CLK. It's nothing like the DCA-IAD or LIN-MXP dynamic.

As a disabled person I don't want anything to do with a hub airport. They're a nightmare for accessibility. That said, if B6 would like to take a shot at going toe-to-toe with WN and DL at GRR I'd be psyched.

The whole way, no... but it's not as if they didn't make due for more than a half-century, just fine.

A concept which is laughable to anyone from LAX....

In painfully slow traffic. It's not called "make due" ... it's called "absolutely no alternative, so deal with it". MFM or SZX are completely unrealistic alternative choices for any business passenger so I'll leave that out of the discussion.

Quoting LAX772LR (Reply 15):

I previously lived in Hong Kong for 13 years, all of which Kai Tak was the only airport, so I know a thing or two about KT.

Using Google Maps and plugging in 5pm departure time, it shows current CLK to Central roughly 40-45 min drive. From KaiTak to Central at 5pm, it's 45-50 mins of bumper to bumper traffic jam. Now there's the Airport Express that can get you to Central in 25 mins, an option that doesn't exist whatsoever in the KaiTak days (and KaiTak still doesn't have a MTR subway stop even though it's been discussed and planned).

The ONLY times you can actually arrive Central significantly faster would be really off peak hours like 10pm.

I wouldn't mind seeing DL set up a focus city in MKE like NW did in the mid-2000s. NW flew to MCO, LAS, DCA, LGA, LAX, LAS and PHX non-stop, in addition to MSP/DTW/MEM. NW also had a MKE focus city in the late 80s that was obtained though their acquisition of Republic. Both times the MKE focus cities were short-lived, but I think DL would be more successful this time around since the competitive landscape has changed so much (especially with no YX competition anymore).

At my two hometown airports of ATW and GRB, I have no wild fantasies of anyone coming in and setting up a hub, but I would like to see AA start service to ATW. I'd also like to see GRB-DEN and ATW-DEN restored on UA.

Sadly, I don't think anyone's in a big hurry to try a hub at PHF again...

the new peoplexpress tried that and failed within half a year. Even though geographically it's not bad as a north-south scissor hub, the low O&D of norfolk was probably what killed it (on top of PeoplExpress'es own woes)

IND as well. It's a shell of what it was in the NW days. Would love to see more of the p2p destinations come back that we had pre-merger.

VIE, in the early 2000s. Mere steps between flights, not too crowded, OS a friendly airline to passenger on, went to most of the places in the Balkans and SE Europe I needed going to.

As a crew member on both pax 747s and freighters flying to both Kai Tek and CLK for many years, I (and most of us) prefered the short ride to Kowloon crew hotels much more than the long ride to Central from CLK. Of course most of the arrivals were late in the evening, but the departures were fairly early but I don't remember a lot of traffic jams going to Kai Tek.

But this was an adjustment that all aircrew had to make during the 90s. The moves of international traffic from ITM vto KIX, SEL to ICN, Nagoya to Chubu severly cut into our rest(play) time. I would have just a soon stayed near the airport, but the union wanted to be downtown on long layovers (> 15 hours or something like that). Times were a changing..

In Hong Kong, the single worst bottleneck is taking the tunnel(s) to cross the harbor. If you can avoid that, you save lots, both time and money.

I miss the Interflug hub at SXF... I don't think AB will around much longer, so...

LH hub at THF is my first choice, LH hub at TXL my second choice and LH hub at BER / SXF my third choice. And move LH company HQ back to Berlin, too.
