Help With Booking FLL Trip

Thu Dec 10, 2015 6:26 pm

Hello Fellow A Netters,
Hoping for some advice and that someone will respond.
I am taking a cruise out of FLL in May -Leaving on a SAT and Returning on the following Sunday. Flying from SAT I need to leave early so that I can be to the cruise port on time. Looking at all of the flight offering some flights later in the day are very cheap for my departure. However, for those early morning trips seem to be kinda pricey. Same for my return leg, I need to leave in the afternoon since I am arriving back via cruise ship. My total price is looking to be like $450 r/t with tax from SAT - FLL in May. Does anyone have suggestions as to if they think I should wait or book now? I am just lost at what to do on this.

I don't know what time your cruise boards, but I have always advised people to go the day before if possible and find a cheap hotel to stay at near cruise port... Going the day of can be dangerous if you run into mx or weather delays. The airfare might be cheaper the evening before and even out with the hotel .

Trust Kayak's price predictor. And trust nkops's advice.

Another price predictor that's decently useful is an phone app called Hopper. You can set alerts for price drops too, just like Kayak.

* disclosure : i'm in no shape or form affiliated with Hopper app. I'm speaking merely from personal experience as end-user.

The best way to save a lot of money would be to take the B6 or WN nonstops out of Austin. WN has a early morning flight to FLL and a late evening return.

G4 does fly FLLSAT nonstop but it does not fly on the days of week that match your needs.

Where is the airfare predictor on Kayak? I didn't see it.

I was looking at it looks like the morning flight on AA from DFW to Fll is starting to fill up. Anyone know if the plane is actually filling up?

I'd seriously consider arriving the day before just to be safe. You don't know when a MX or WX delay can happen and completely ruin your plans, especially if you've got connecting flights.

You may also want to look into flying into MIA as well. Flights might be cheaper, and there is a train you can take to get from MIA to FLL. There might be a more elegant way to get to FLL though.

We cruise out of FLL 3 or 4 times a year, with the airport being so close to the port the temptation is always there to fly in on the day, however, as others have said, flying in the day before is the safer bet, all it takes is a day from hell at the airport, we've all been there for your whole vacation to turn to hell.

There are plenty of nice hotels close by, check out http://www.slh.com/hotels/the-pillars-hotel/

Great hotel and the rates are not bad

BTW, there is a cruise ship thread in non-av, swing by and say hi

I live in Fort Lauderdale so here is what I would suggest - leave the day/night before you cruise and stay at the Hampton Inn on
Highway 84. Nice hotel, free breakfast and they will shuttle you to your cruise ship.

I always go the day before. It is worth the extra hotel night vs missing the non refundable cruise.

I just received a schedule change from AA on a flight at the end of a cruise in March. Originally I had about 4 1/2 hours form docking to flight which was fine. They mvoed the flight up 1 1/2 hours so I knew I could not stay with that flight. I called AA and they did change my flight but now I have a 7 hour wait from arrival until my flight. So, always keep an eye on your return flight also in case they change the time.
