If most people have done their travelling by then in order to get from A to B are the planes more open and the journey less stressful, just a thought.

Flying On The Holiday Day?
Just a thought, do you get a better experience with an airline if you fly on the holiday day its self.

I've flown WestJet on Canada Day (July 1). They give free Molson Canadian beer
I'm flying AC YVR-YYC late on Dec 24 and will arrive in YYC on Dec 25. Will let you know if they do anything special.....although I doubt it.

A couple of years ago I flew LAX-LHR departing 31 Decmber and arriving 1 January. Really, it was like any other day. Flight full, nothing special going on. Only thing was that the captain wished us a happy new year once we landed in London.

I have flown on WN on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day-people seemed more relaxed and in good spirits.

I flew DL and they made all the passengers sing 2 Christmas songs which was quite fun .

I've flown on Christmas, New Year and Thanksgiving days and I do not recall anything out of the ordinary. My favorite is an outbound international flight within a few days of Thanksgiving. The international terminals are quiet and security lines are as short as they get!

I've flown long haul on xmas day, xmas eve and new years day. Xmas day and eve: they served an xmas dinner and the cabin crew were dolled up with tinsel in their hair and around their name badges (on VS but not on BA). Lots of merry xmas wishes during boarding and deplaning.
New years day - nothing of note except new year wishes on the PA and when boarding etc...

Flown on New Years Eve into New Years Day transatlantic many times. Originally you might get a free drink, more recently nothing at all, except a greeting.
Most noticeable was that very many airport staff wanted to be elsewhere and were more miserable than usual, airport facilities closed or understaffed for the few passengers in flight and very limited transport options on the east side of the pond due to Christmas /New Year closedown.

I travel often on Christmas Day. One of my crew put tinsel up on the first few rows of the cabin and a wreath on the cockpit door

I was actually scheduled to fly back to work on December 25th with WestJet, but I took an extra week off instead 
It would have been an interesting experience though, typically, our flight only sees a handful of people as is, I reckon I would have been the only one on the plane this time LOL!

I've found that I usually see better airfares when looking at flights for travel on the holiday itself.

I flew a transatlantic leg on New Years Eve into New Years Day, 100+ empty seats on the plane. The flight attendants came around with Champagne somewhere over Greenland, but otherwise a normal flight.

The Christmas morning SIN-LHR always used to be empty with like 80 passengers or less on it.

Not so much on short haul flights because most airlines extensively cancel down. We fly BNA-CHI on Christmas day every year, and our flights are generally full. But, there are many fewer flights, so the airport experience is more pleasant.
Special events onboard depend largely on the carrier and on the crew. A Jewish friend who is a WN captain always bids trips that include Christmas because he can get better trips than his seniority would otherwise allow. I've not flown with him but imagine that he doesn't do much to recognize the day since it's not "his" holiday.

As it turns out, it was seamless to travel the day prior to Thanksgiving. In fact, the Tuesday after was a bit busier IMHO.
Travel the day of is indeed quieter but I would not travel the day of just to avoid the day before stress. Simply put, travel the day before was fine.
