Surprised no one mentioned YTZ and YYZ... 20km apart, both served by Air Canada Express/Sky Regional.

Thanks - some great replies here. I was looking for close airports that are served by the same airline - from the same origin (I realise now I left that bit out)!
Anyway, I bet FLL and MIA have several airlines serving both from the same origin, and I'm sure the London Airports do too (from FRA and BRU to both LHR and LCY for instance).
Any others?

IST - SAW is approx 75km by car, 55km by public transport and maybe 45-50km air-line distance?
Both airports served at least by TK, EK and QR

Even if we use the criteria of foreign airlines, WestJet, for example, flies to FLL, MIA (30 miles), and PBI (45 miles).

For that matter, NH flies to both SFO and SJC...BA and LH both start service to SJC next year as well as serving SFO
Quoting flightsimer (Reply 45):
Westray and Papa Westray in Scottland are both Served by Loganaire and are only 2.7km apart straight line distance. This also happens to be the worlds shortest airline flight at 30 seconds-2 minutes long...

THAT'S a short flight! Do they get landing clearance for their destination before taking off from the other airport?

Somebody more informed than me can correct that, but I believe between VIE and BTS (ab. 50 Km) an airline not only serves both from the same place , but even flies a flight between them, with a jet. It should be Air Berlin/Niki that has a repositioning flight that you could actually book. BTW they are two different cities (capitals) of two different States, now both in EU. Or was it OS?

DL serves all three of SFO, OAK, and SJC from SLC. They also serve all five of LAX, LGB, SNA, BUR and ONT from SLC. That's the nature of the hub-and-spoke model at major network carriers -- any airport with demand is usually going to be served from the nearest logical hub. I'm sure that there are extensive examples among the airports already listed in the thread.

I think most of what you've seen still qualifies. For example, the MFM and HKG pairing is served by several airlines from common points (AK to KUL; BR to TPE; PR to MNL). DXB and SHJ both have QR to DOH, AI to MAA, and probably others. They're 16 km apart.

ATW and GRB are 31.1 miles/50km apart. DL serves both. Years ago, YX had a flight that operated ATW-GRB-MKE. Immediately after take-off from ATW, one could see the lights of GRB.

Depends on which metric you want to use. DCA-IAD-BWI is one single CSA, but two separate MSAs. Similarly, SFO-OAK and SJC are 2 MSAs, but one single CSA.

Those are the 2 most prominent examples of a single metro unnecessarily chopped into 2 by the census bureau. Things like D/FW, M/SP, or MIA-FLL-PBI aren't chopped.

MMX and CPH are both served by SAS and Norwegian from ARN. They are in different countries for sure but both part of the Öresundregion and with train/road connection over the Öresundbridge which makes CPH a common choice for travelers from the south of Sweden.

During winter storms, when airports in the NE US go code red, it's not unusual to fly out of one Washington airport and return to another (done it many times). The legacies, B6, and WN serve all three DC airports.

If you land at IAD, but you left your car at DCA or BWI, it's important to know the distances to those are 24 miles (DCA) and 45 miles (BWI).

Rent a compact, and there you go.

For airports served by the majors it would probably be PPP and HTI (44km) both have JQ and VA.

The short-lived Airtransit experiment in the mid-70s had an Air Canada subsidiary fly from Victoria STOLport in Montreal to Rockliffe airport in Ottawa. Victoria was 20 km from YUL and Rockliffe is a bit less than that from YOW.

Some background:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_STOLport

http://proposmontreal.com/index.php/le-stolport-victoria/ (in French)

This last article gives details about the former airfield, stating that it was built on a former Expo 67 parking lot, which had been built over a dump, literally (!). Before inauguration, the pavement of the landing strip cracked, and an engineer had the surprise, when he tossed a lit paper in the crack, to see the tarmac ignite, because of all the methane coming up from the decomposition happening underneath.

I remember seeing the airport and the planes, when I was a kid.

I realize that there is no picture of any Airtransit aircraft in the database…

Here is one:

Be closer if you simply use straight line distances

Sort-of-amusingly, the straight line distances (between control towers per Google Earth) are quite close to each other.

LAX-BUR: 17.9 miles
LAX-LGB: 17.2 miles
LGB-SNA: 18.6 miles

SNA-ONT: 30.2 miles
LGB-BUR: 29.2 miles
LGB-ONT: 35.4 miles

BUR-ONT: 43.7 miles
LAX-ONT: 46.2 miles

I believe WN serves all four.

SFO and OAK are 10 miles apart. On the other side of the county, PIE and TPA are 10 miles apart. And in the middle, DAL and DFW are about 11 miles apart. No idea on airlines, though.

DCA is 29 miles from IAD and 45 miles from BWI; many airlines fly to all three.

LAX, SNA, LGB, ONT, and BUR are all within about a 30 mile radius; some airlines fly to at least 4 of them.

HOU and IAH are 29 miles apart; AA and DL fly to both.

High frequency RJ service to piddling small regional airports is a major reason that US hubs are overscheduled and delay prone. Some examples:

New Orleans: MSY + BTR (60 miles), GPT (87 miles), and LAF (100 miles) with AA, DL, and UA serving all four.

Detroit: DTW has TOL (65 miles), FNT (76 miles), and LAN (96 miles) with several airlines serving two or three.
