Defunct Airlines And Route To/from AUH

Hi guys,

I was curious how many airlines, and for that matter routes, aren't at Abu Dhabi anymore. Just curious to compare past to present. If you could list the airlines and routes. Thanks!

Go find an old Gul Air timetable. They were the biggest thing in town and had a hub at AUH.

AUH also served as the flight training center and MRO base for GF during its heyday.

I touched down at AUH both ways on routing LGW-AUH-BKK-DPS-BKK-AUH-LGW on GA back in 1999.

I'm not sure that there are any routes from GF that EY didn't pick up - in fact I'm pretty sure EY serve MORE routes from AUH compared to the GF days...that being said, there are a few airlines that no longer serve AUH - Swissair/Swiss, Air France, Cathay Pacific, Thai, and I think even Singapore have since left AUH.

Regularly a A320, but sometimes a 767, and in previous incarnations, a 737-200

YES-of course that was an absolute pleasure to fly.

GF's AUH/DXB sectors were usually 'international' and meant for people connecting onwards to international destinations from Abu Dhabi. No local DXB/AUH traffic rights.

EK also operated a number of routes from AUH, like London (not sure if Gatwick or Heathrow) and I think Amman/Beirut, using A310 equipment. All originating in DXB of course.

Good catch by Tugmaster and Lufty also flew DXB-AUH with 747-400 equipment, no local rights of course but still interesting.

Seem to recall BCal routed their LGW / HKG flight via either AUH or DXB in the mid '80s can't remember
which though.
