Have You Flown The Alphabet? Airline Edition

Mon Apr 04, 2016 1:01 am

Every now and then, a thread with the question "Have you landed on the alphabet?" pops up, where everyone lists how many letters of the alphabet they've covered with the airports they've flown through. There hasn't been a similar thread about airlines since 2011 though, at least none that I can find, so I think it's time for a new one!

I'll start with mine (booked but not flown in brackets):

A: AA AC AF AI

Sure, why not? And can someone remind me what ExpressJet's IATA code was before they merged with EV? When I try to look it up all I can find is the current EV code. I figure since I flew on both before they merged I should list both codes.

ExpressJet's IATA code was XE and ICAO code was BTA. The "legacy XE" side of EV is fantastic! I wish I could say the same for the ASA side.

Pleasure. It often helps me with the less well-known codes, so I thought I ought to mention it.

Quoting ZKCIF (Reply 36):

Nup, last time (and only) I flew in domestic Chile was Lan Express (LU) A320 between SCL and ANF, as part of the most bizarre trip I ever did, bought just with my miles (which i had scored with vouchers received after a delay once and an overbooking another time, buying 3 for the price of 1 mille), for myself, my two sisters and my mother, on TACA. Route was ANF-LIM-SJO, then LIR-SAL-TGU-GUA, then GUA-SAL-PTY, then PTY-BOG-LIM-ANF. The LIM-ANF sector was cancelled so we went to SCL and back north with LAN.
Those were the most amazing days of TACA Perú, which lost most of its charm being now Avianca Perú, and stopped serving so many drinks in their flights. I got drunk on every segment, just with whisky with Inca Kola.
The PTY-BOG segment was done by Avianca Brazil A319s (PT-AVB) and then we stopped in BOG for 12 hours. As we arrived to El Dorado back there was overbooking (as always) in TA133 to LIM, and they offered us 4 a 2000U$S voucher if we took the following flight in the morning, though we would have to connect via SCL as the LIM-ANF was just 3 times a week. My mother said no, so we went on a very crowded and hot A321 to LIM, to find out the flight to ANF had been cancelled, spending 3 hours in LIM and further 6 hours in SCL until we got four places to ANF, were we had our car left. Those who chose the voucher, spent a night in a lovely hotel in Bogotá, and went the following morning, arriving to ANF in the same flight as we did (they were putted on BOG-SCL nonstop flight of AV in A330 connecting to LA to ANF).
And from ANF to TUC (my home city), just a 1600km drive through the Andes. We landed in ANF at 2pm and arrived home close to 5am the following morning, just on time for my sisters to go to school and myself to work.
It was the funniest holiday ever! My family never allowed me to organise a trip for them again, not with so many segments (but we did spent 4 days in Costa Rica, 3 in Guatemala and 5 in Panamá), plus long layovers which allowed us to visit both SAL and BOG, on organised sight-seen tours with cool taxi drivers...
All in all, the flights were for free.
Ahh, and the luggage never arrived to ANF. It got lost in BOG and arrived home 10 days later, with another vouchers from TACA, which i used for miles to buy EZE-LIM-UIO-MDE-MAD-CLO-BOG-EZE few months later! I don't think I ever paid a cent on a TACA flight, it was all redeemed with Vouchers!
