UA 737 SEA-IAD What To Expect?

Sun Jun 12, 2016 11:56 pm

In August I'm going on a trip with my family to IAD on UA in Y on a 737-900. I don't know if it's a -900 or a -900ER. What should I expect in the onboard experience? Are the seats uncomfortable like some people have said about DL's 739's? Is everything BOB or is there free drinks and snacks? Will there be DirecTV or device streaming? Is the interior the PMCO one or the UA one?
Thanks for the advice.

Given the length of the flight, it will almost certainly be a 900ER.

Great airplane, but yes, the seats are uncomfortable. DrectTV will be hit or miss.. the "older" frames have it, the newer ones do not.

Definitely a 900ER with slimline seats and may or may not have DTV or Streaming. While UA is rapidly installing streaming on the 900ERs, there is a high probability that you'll get on a "dark" version for this flight.

The configuration(s) of this airplane I'm really not a fan of at United. Delta installed AVOD nose-to-tail on their 900ERs and are much nicer to fly with.

Yes, UA made a big mistake when they decided to discontinue putting in state of the art AVOD and Wifi on these birds. Such a shame because I love the plane itself (737-900ER). Delta certainly has the better product now on these birds.

Very much agreed. It's an ongoing issue that management seems to be avoiding in giving a proper explanation for.

Side note: If you think this is bad, have you heard about the high density UA domestic 777s with no AVOD in Y (but J has the 3-class J seats with AVOD?) Apparently there's a call button on the armrest and initial reports are that everybody in accidentally hitting the call button in-flight with their arm(s). Seems like torture :(

With regards to catering:
1. Tea, Coffee and Soft Drinks are Complimentary
2. United recently reintroduced complimentary snacks in the economy cabin. If your flight departs before 09:45, you will receive a Dutch Stroopwafel. Flights departing after 09:45 are stocked with Asian and Ranch snack mixes. It's not a full meal by any means, but better than nothing. Beyond that, BOB options will be available.

Ok thanks guys. I'll be sure to download the United app for streaming just in case. :)

Great idea. I was flying a UA A320 a couple weeks ago and was watching movies on my phone through the app. There were quite a few movies and shows, which was great. On a longer flight, I'll crack out the iPad and watch them.

To follow up on my prior message. As great as I think using the UA app is for watching things, I still like AA's new A319/321 fleet with seat back video screens. I'd much rather use that than my phone/iPad.

Yeah if it works. I hear UA's streaming is inconsistent on quite a few Android devices.

Oddly enough, I got Delta Studio to work on the Safari browser on my Mac over Chrome :o

That won't be a problem since I'll be streaming on my iPad most likely, but good to know.

Make sure to download that United streaming app before boarding - seems to be critical

All of the 737s that lack DirecTV will have streaming installed I believe by the end of this month, so your flight will have one of the two. Some -900s have outlets in every row and some only have them in economy plus so beware of that as well
