I had asked this question on another unrelated thread about 747s a while ago but never found an answer so here it is again.
I noticed a while ago that on Malaysia Airlines' 747s there are two breaks in the window line in the last section (Zone E). They are toward the very back of the cabin but only on the right side.
I thought it may be some peculiarity of Malaysian but then flying through Orlando a couple months ago I noticed a line of three Virgin 744s parked next to each other. Two of them also had this odd break; but the third did not.
I am curious as to what this is for, and why it's only on a handful of 747s.
Any thoughts? (sorry I can't seem to figure out how to post pics, or I would show some examples of each).

Did a little looking and here's the answer I came up with.
VS has a few different 747's because they were someone else's order. They currently have 8 in service.
G-VBIG - Leased from ILFC
G-VAST - Originally ordered by VARIG
G-VXLG - Originally ordered by VARIG
These 3 all have complete sets of windows.
I'm pretty sure these aircraft are the LHR aircraft
The other 5 that VS currently has active were all originally ordered by Alitalia, who then cancelled the order ( http://boeing.mediaroom.com/2000-03-16- ... g-747-400s )
G-VROS, G-VGAL, G-VLIP, G-VROM, G-VROY
These 5 are all missing windows on the right rear of the aircraft, and should be the LGW aircraft. I guess the missing windows has to do with planned aircraft layout by Alitalia

Just a guess, but could it be different Air Conditioning ductwork for the cabin crew rest?
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.
