A320 small flap door

Fri Sep 23, 2016 11:09 pm

I noticed the A320 has a small flap door below the right rear door that is open. What is it and does it remain open during flight?

Looks like the outflow valve. Regulates pressurization. It is usually open on the ground and drives toward closed during flight. On a 737 it is on the left side.

That's the outflow valve. It closes (well, almost closes) to maintain pressurization in flight.

You are correct I was thinking the 757. It has it on the left like the MD80.

What is the reason the edges of the 737 outflow valve are jagged rather then smooth?

To reduce aerodynamic noise.
