SkyWest crew scheduling

Does SkyWest schedule it's crews by contract? As in, will a FA working for SkyWest end up portraying say Alaska Airlines, American Eagle and Delta Connection in the same week? If so, is it the employee's responsibility to purchase a wardrobe for each airline?

This subject comes up every few months it seems. Crew bid bases, so it's likely if you are based in SLC you will be working DL trips and UA if you were based in DEN. But that doesn't mean you couldn't be assigned a DL trip out of DEN or a UA trip out of SLC either.

Are you speaking of flight crew or cabin crew?

AFAIK, pilot uniforms do not change from mainline brand to brand. Cabin crew have some minor adjustments they make (scarves, ties, etc) to change between the various mainlines they fly for. They keep the changes small as to not add additional cost (and easy to carry the accent pieces for multiple mainline operators in their bag). I do not believe that cabin crew fly for multiple mainlines in a day (or even a 3 day trip), but they can always be rerouted at the last minute. You could still have two separate 2-3 day trips in a week and fly for AS, DL, UA, AA in the same week. But I think what base the crew is in helps shape which mainline carriers they will fly for.

This is easy. the thing that is really funny is when they run out of branded cups and have the other branded cups available.

I am not sure how often this happens but I have never experienced that. The catering is stocked by the mainline carrier, I don't know why Delta's catering would all of the sudden have United's cups on hand, especially since the airplanes themselves stay on contract specific pairings except for the very small fleet of generic planes which can bounce around between them.

And if you were based in LAX you could work basically anything. The employees have uniforms for every brand.

The generic Skywest branded spares move quite a bit throughout the system. Typically they come from MX Base > Hub but sometimes they come from MX Base > Field City and as a result the catering doesn't get changed out. Here in PHX, we used to get spares from SLC's hangar all the time. We had a day where it came in with Alaska ala carte tags, United Cups, napkins and atlases, Delta drink trays and biscoff and a branded DL galley cart (one that has the new glossy DL front). Of course it was going out as AA so it was a bit odd to say the least and an absolute pain to recater (we had to go grab a half-cart off of a DL branded OO plane at another terminal to swap out with ours).

As far as crew scheduling goes, each Western base now has flights for at least two of the carriers (LAX has all 3, PHX has DL/AA, SLC has DL/UA, PSP has DL/UA, SEA has DL/UA, DEN has DL/AA/UA)

Depends on the base, for instance at YX crews will work trips depending on the carrier at each particular base. If you are a reserve flight attendant, you must be ready to fly any trip regardless of base and airline as scheduling can and will send you all over the network depending on need.

This how YX bases will look like effective January 31, 2017 (post Shuttle America/Republic merger):

MIA: American Eagle
DCA: American Eagle, American Shuttle, Delta Shuttle, and United Express
PHL: American Eagle
LGA: American Eagle, American Shuttle, Delta Connection, and Delta Shuttle
PIT: American Eagle, United Express
ORD: United Express, Delta Shuttle
IND: American Eagle, United Express
CMH: American Eagle, United Express
MCI: American Eagle, United Express

*Rumor: IAH base to be announced after merger is complete. Substantial increase in YX/United Express 175 flying out of IAH come April will be happening.
